Money Makers & Heart Breakers (Fantasy Football 2021 – Week 9)

Yesterday was an absolutely crazy day in the NFL today. Here are the news items:

  • Henry Ruggs killed someone drunk driving
  • Michael Thomas puts out an Instagram post that he will not play this season
  • Aaron Rodgers will miss Week 9 with COVID-19
  • Odell Beckham Jr. appears to be on his way out of Cleveland
  • Saquon Barkley may or may not miss Week 9

I actually may have missed something. It was a tough day keeping up with the news and made it challenging for me to complete this article.

Week 9 will be very interesting, to say the least. Please remember to be kind when you are out there and show some form of empathy for others’ situations. We have seen the loss of life and lives ruins on a very large stage. Don’t take life, success, or your time for granted.

Get out there and enjoy the moment you have with those you care about.

Quarterbacks

Tua Tagovailoa

Tua has played exceptionally well so far this season. His worst game was last week against the Bills and their number 1 defense against quarterbacks in fantasy. In Week 9, Tua plays against the Texans who give up the 6th most fantasy points to quarterbacks. Against bottom 10 defenses, Tua averages 25.4 points per week. The Texans give up 266 yards and 2 touchdowns to quarterbacks per week. Tua is good to play again.

Taysom Hill

You are probably asking yourself right now “Seriously Mike, Taysom Hill?” Well, yes seriously. Hill plays the Falcons who give up the 5th most fantasy points to quarterbacks this week. Hill possesses rushing upside, the Konami code for quarterbacks and to top it all off in his 4 starts last season he had top 15 finishes in fantasy in each and every one of them.

Jordan Love

OK, here is where I am being incredibly daring. The Packers play the Chiefs in Week 9. The Chiefs give up the second most fantasy points to quarterbacks. He has the weapons in, Adams and Jones. More than likely he will be passing. I had Aaron Rodgers in this space until he came down with COVID, I am pivoting to Love here.

Running Backs

Boston Scott

The Eagles will play the Chargers this week. The Chargers give up a total of 132 yards and a touchdown on the ground to running backs weekly. In Week 8, Scott proved to be the real running back to roster in Philly, he had 12 carries for 60 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Miles Gaskin

Gaskin had 19 touches in week 8. He totaled 55 yards with those touches. But week 9 is a new week and the Texans are up next. The Texans are the 6th friendliest defense to running backs in fantasy. They give up an average of 129 yards and a touchdown rushing and another 26 yards receiving to running backs weekly. Gaskin will get the volume to do the damage and get you the fantasy points.

Devontae Booker

It appears as of the writing of this article that Saquon Barkley will miss another week, this time due to COVID. In his absence, Booker has produced very solid numbers on a weekly basis as he is heavily involved in both the run and the pass. The Raiders and their bottom 10 defense against running backs are up next. Book this guy into your lineup.

Wide Receivers

Jerry Jeudy

Jeudy is back. The Broncos play the Cowboys in Week 9. The Cowboys give up an average of 188 yards and a touchdown to wide receivers a week. That is the 7th most fantasy points to the position. This is really the week to plug him in.

Brandin Cooks

The Dolphins give up the second most points to wide receivers on weekly basis. The Dolphins have given up 12 touchdowns to wide receivers this season. Cooks has a 30% target share on the season for the Texans. Yes! I love him this week against the Dolphins.

Marquise Brown

The Vikings are giving up the 6th most fantasy points to wide receivers. Brown has 35% of his team’s air yards and a 25% target share of the passing game for the Ravens. Brown is currently the WR10 on the season in fantasy points scored. This is pretty easy to pick up right? Play Brown this week.

Tight Ends

Dallas Goedert

Goedert is one of the focal points of the passing offense for the Eagles. The Eagles play the Chargers in week 9. The Chargers give up the third most fantasy points to tight ends. Goedert had 7 targets last week for 6 receptions and 72 yards. Expect more of the same or better this week.

Jared Cook

Cook has been up and down this season. Up when the match-up is right and down when it isn’t. This week, the Chargers play the Eagles who give up the fifth most fantasy points to tight ends. We are looking at another 7- 10 target day for Cooks.

💔 Heart Breakers

Quarterbacks

Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy looks fantastic in week 8. But Week 9 brings the Cardinals and the Cardinals give up the second fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks. Quarterbacks average just 14.78 points against the Cardinals on average and only 2 have had 20 or more points against them this season. Look for the Niners to be run-heavy.

Dak Prescott/Cooper Rush

I don’t care which Cowboys quarterback it is that starts and we don’t know at this time. But I do know is that the Broncos are tough on quarterbacks in fantasy. The Broncos give up the 3rd fewest fantasy points to QBs. Avoid Dallas QBs this week in DFS.

Jalen Hurts

I love Jalen Hurts as a fantasy quarterback. I will be playing him in the league I have him. But the Chargers give up the fourth fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks. Last week the Eagles decided they could run and this week they can too. I am avoiding him in DFS.

Running Backs

Damien Harris

I know you are used to me praising this guy. You are used to me telling you over and over to play him. Only the Bills are better against running backs than the Panthers and the Patriots play the Panthers in week 9. He is another guy I am playing everywhere in season-long but not in DFS.

Joe Mixon

I am back to tell you not to play Mixon. The Browns are up in Week 9 and the Browns give up the 5th fewest points to running backs in fantasy. Mixon may do well with his volume but he is an avoid in DFS as Browns have given up over 15 points only twice this season to running backs.

Melvin Gordon

While you can pass on the Cowboys they are tough to run on. They are a top 10 defense against running backs in fantasy. I am looking for the Broncos to pass and pass some more to stay in this game.

Wide Receivers

Mike Williams

The Chargers have the Eagles up and you can pass on the Eagles just not to wide receivers. The Eagles give up the third fewest fantasy points to wide receivers. Other than Tyreek Hill going nuts on the Eagles in week 4 no other wide receiver has even topped 19 points.

Kadarius Toney

Despite all the turmoil with the Raiders, they defend wide receivers well. Not a single wide receiver this season has scored over 20 points against them. So this is for all Giants wide receivers not just Toney. The Volume may be there but the production will be limited.

Devonta Smith

As the Eagles are tough against wide receivers so are the Chargers. Giving up the second fewest fantasy points to wide receivers, the Chargers will not be allowing the Eagles to pass deep on Sunday. No wide receiver has scored more than 13 points against the Chargers this season.

Tight Ends

Dalton Schultz

Denver’s defense has been good against the tight position so far this season. The Broncos have kept Mark Andrews and Darren Waller in check, so I think they will also keep Schultz in check in week 9. Not a single tight ends has broken 10 points against this defense. Not a single tight end has scored a touchdown against the Broncos. This is making me sad, I have to stop looking at the data.

Mark Andrews

The Vikings give up the 6th fewest fantasy points to tight ends, they are almost as stingy as the Broncos. Only once has a tight end cracked 10 points against them this season and no tight end has scored a touch down against them this season. This position is making me very sad, it’s time to stop writing this article.
