Untangling the Waiver Wire (Fantasy Football 2021 – Week 12)

Teams on bye in Week 11:

  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Kansas City Chiefs

NOTE: If you are new around here this column refers to players rostered in under 50% of Yahoo, ESPN, and Sleeper Leagues.

Quarterbacks

TAYLOR HEINICKE

Heinicke threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns in Week 11, while also rushing for 29 yards. With Logan Thomas coming back to the roster this week it looks like Heinicke will have a full set of receivers in his offense. Before Thomas was injured Heinicke was producing multiple touchdowns a week in the passing game. After two wins in a row, things are looking up for the Washington Football Team.

TREVOR SIEMIAN

I was pretty down on Siemian and I shouldn’t have been. Siemian has multiple passing touchdowns in 3 straight weeks and rushed for one in Week 11. His play has gotten better every week and after Buffalo, in Week 12 the schedule gets easier with the Cowboys, Jets, Buccaneers, and Dolphins the following 4 weeks.

Other quarterbacks to consider if you are desperate: Cam Newton, Jimmy Garoppolo.

NOTE: If Cam Newton is out there he would be the top add off the waiver wire at quarterback Cam is rostered on 51% of Yahoo leagues.

Running Backs

TY JOHNSON

Michael Carter went down with an ankle injury in Week 11. There are two bottom 10 defenses against running backs on the schedule in Weeks 12 and 13, as the Jets will play the Texans and the Eagles. If Carter is out Johnson will be in a very nice spot to produce here.

LATAVIUS MURRAY

Murray is back in the line-up for the Ravens and we know they will split the carries between Murray and Devonta Freeman. Murray had 12 touches in Week 11 his first game back after missing 4 weeks. You can look for this usage to increase although he will be part of Raven’s committee.

Other running backs to consider: Matt Breida, Jordan Howard, Dalton Hilliard.

Wide Receivers

Tre’Quan Smith

In Week 10 Smith saw 7 targets and in Week 11 Smith had 8 targets. That was tied for the team lead in Week 11 and was a 20% target share. Siemian looks Smith’s way often and this makes him playable if you need a bye week fill-in.

MARQUEZ VALDES-SCANTLING

MVS turned 10 targets into 4 receptions for 123 yards and a touchdown in Week 11. The Packers don’t have a lot of weapons so this may be the spark that is needed to make MVS a viable start the rest of the way.

Other wide receivers to consider: Jamison Crowder, DeAndre Carter.

Tight Ends

ADAM TRAUTMAN

Trautman has been getting the targets for four straight games now, but the touchdown in Week 11 has got people’s attention. With a total of 27 targets over that four-game stretch, Trautman is looking like a viable tight-end play the rest of the way.

EVAN ENGRAM

Another guy I had here last week is Engram. He is available in 68% of leagues coming off his Week 10 bye. The schedule couldn’t be any easier for him, quite literally the easiest tight end schedule for the rest of the season. He has a touchdown in each of his last two games. Engram looks like someone that can help you through the stretch run.
