Untangling the Waiver Wire (Fantasy Football 2021 – Week 14)

This is the last regular season Untangling the Wire for 2021. Some of the players have great playoff schedules that I have listed here. I do believe I have been including in this article most of these players for weeks now. If you have someone that has a 0% chance of cracking your start roster you may want to add one of these guys.

NOTE: If you are new around here this column refers to players rostered in under 50% of Yahoo, ESPN, and Sleeper Leagues.

Quarterbacks

Tua Tagovailoa

Tua last three weeks has thrown for 5 touchdowns.  He hasn’t been crazy with the yards with a high of 273 in that span. What I like the most about Tua if you have been streaming QBs is after his bye Week 14 he has the following playoff schedule, the Jets (the bottom 15 team against quarterbacks), Saint (the bottom 5) and Titans (second-worst against quarterbacks). You have to like that schedule.

Taysom Hill

We are waiting to see how his finger is and if he will actually play. But his numbers from Week 13 are 264 yards passing, 2 passing touchdowns and 11 carries for 101 yards rushing. He is a true Konami Code quarterback. That was the QB4 finish for Week 13. This guy just produces fantasy goodness. His upcoming schedule is Jets (bottom 15 team against quarterbacks), Buccaneers (bottom 9), Dolphins (Bottom 8), and finishing championship week with the Panthers.

Other quarterbacks to consider if you are desperate: Taylor Heinicke, Teddy Bridgewater

Running Backs

Dontrell Hilliard & D’Onta Foreman

Here are the numbers for Week 12. Hilliard had 133 total yards and a touchdown. Foreman had 111 total yards. Both running backs ran exceptionally well for the Titans in Week 12 against the Patriots. We know the Titans want to run the ball and apparently, they will split snaps and touches almost equally, Hilliard played 32 snaps and Foreman played 31 snaps. Hilliard had 13 touches and Foreman had 20 touches. I like both of them. I would probably add Hilliard as 1A and Foreman as 1B. The schedule looks like this: is Jaguars (bottom 10 team against quarterbacks), Steelers (bottom 12), Niners (Bottom 14), and finishing championship week with the Dolphins in Week 17.

NOTE: If you play redraft with me it is more than likely that I already have Hilliard on my roster.

Other running backs to consider: Matt Breida, Adrian Peterson

Wide Receivers

KJ Osborn

Adam Thielen suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 13 and is most definitely out for Week 14. In his absence, Osborn saw 7 targets and had 4 receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown. Osborn produced earlier in the season as well. The passing tree is not overly large for the Vikings and they will be throwing the football. The schedule looks like this Steelers and Bears (both bottom 10 against wide receivers) and the Rams and Packers which are both middle of the road against wide receivers.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling

The Packers were on a bye in Week 13, but in the last two games, MVS has seen 19 targets which have turned into 8 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown. His schedule is not daunting with the Bears, Ravens, Browns, and Dolphins for the final for weeks. If you have a need he could be a nice plug and play.

Russell Gage

Gage had a 29% target share in Week 13. In the past three weeks, he has had a total of 27 targets, 22 receptions, 241 yards, and a touchdown. There is some seriously high volume here. The schedule is tough though: Panthers, Niners, Lions, and Bills for the final four weeks.

Other wide receivers to consider: Deonte Harris, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine

Tight Ends

Tyler Conklin

Adam Thielen suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 13 and is most definitely out for Week 14. In his absence, Conklin had a 22% target share which was the second-highest on the team. Conklin had 9 targets, 7 receptions for 56 yards. The schedule looks like this Steeler, Bears, Rams, and Packers.

Cole Kmet

In 4 of the last 6 games, Kmet has had 6 or more targets. In Week 13 he had 7 targets which netted him 3 receptions for 41 yards. The remaining schedule is Packers, Vikings, Seahawks, and Giants.

Other tight ends to consider: Evan Engram, James O’Shaughnessy
