Money Makers and Heart Breakers (Fantasy Football 2020 – Week 4)

Well, well, well back again, huh?  It’s great to have you back here. Three weeks into the season and we finally got to see the potential of Covid-19 delaying a game (Steelers vs Titans).  We have also got to see some amazing football being played by guys like Alvin Kamara, Deandre Hopkins, and Josh Allen.  It has certainly been exciting.

Money Maker – I think this person will perform well this week and be better than projections

Heart Breaker – These players will not live up to projections

Quarterbacks

💰 Money Makers

Ryan Fitzpatrick – In Week 2, Fitzmagic threw for 328 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Week 3 saw Fitzmagic throw for 2 more touchdowns and run for a third.  In Week 4, he gets the Seattle Seahawks, who have been the second friendliest defense for quarterbacks in fantasy this season.  Are you following me?  Are you picking up what I am putting down?   I wrote Fitzpatrick up last week as a Money Maker, and I also had him as the top add at QB in Untangling the Wire.  So YES, I am saying play him Week 4. ($7,100 on FanDuel and $5,400 on DraftKings) Pure Money!

Joe Burrow – Burrow is averaging 47 passes a game over the first 3 games.  The Bengals are playing the Jaguars this week, who happen to be the sixth friendliest defense to quarterbacks in fantasy.  The Jaguars have given up 300 yards or 3 or more touchdowns in every game this season.  Joe Burrow is set up for a VERY nice week fantasy wise in Week 4.  ($7,400 on FanDuel and $6,300 on DraftKings)

Matthew Stafford – Kenny Golladay is playing again.  Stafford has two passing touchdowns in each of the past two games and is playing against a Saints defense that has allowed at least two passing scores in every game to date.  The stars are finally aligning for Stafford to have a big day. ( $7,200 on FanDuel ad $5,900 on DraftKings)

Other quarterbacks I like in Week 4:

There is the obvious: Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott, Aaron Rodgers, and Lamar Jackson

The not so obvious: Deshaun Watson, Baker Mayfield, Derek Carr, and Carson Wentz

💔 Heart Breakers

Tom Brady – Brady will be without Chris Godwin.  It’s much easier to run on the Chargers defense.  This looks like a let down week for Brady.  The Chargers have been giving up 6.6 yards per pass attempt, which is 6th in the NFL.  I don’t like Brady as more than a QB2 in Week 4.  If you have better options, play them.

Nick Foles – Foles took over in Week 3 as the Bears starting quarterback and threw three touchdowns. In Week 4, he gets to go up against a Colts defense that is the toughest on quarterbacks in the NFL. The Colts have had 6 interceptions this season and have not allowed more than 173 yards passing.  Ouch!

Others quarterbacks who will make you pay in Week 4: Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones, Philip Rivers, and Dwayne Haskins

Running Backs

💰 Money Makers

Kenyan Drake –  Drake hasn’t faired so well to start the season, having only between 65 and 95 total yards per game.  Well in Week 4, Drake gets to face the Carolina Panthers defense.  This defense has given up 7 touchdowns and 565 total yards to the running back position this season.  It has been a revolving door defense for running backs in 2020, and now Drake gets his turn.  ($7,000 on FanDuel and $6,000 on DraftKings)

Todd Gurley – The Packers are the third worst defense against running backs this season.  The Packers give up the fourth most yards per carry to running backs and the third most receptions.  Gurley finds himself in a nice spot to capitalize in Week 4.

Darrell Henderson – Who has a 120 total yards in each of the last two games?  Who has a touchdown in each of the last two games?  Henderson does, that’s who. In Week 4 Henderson gets to play a Giants defense that has given up at least 100 yards or a touchdown to every team’s backfield this season.    ($6,400 on FanDuel and 5,800 on DraftKings)

Other running backs to play:

The obvious: Alvin Kamara, Ezekiel Elliott, and Miles Sanders

The not so obvious: James Robinson, Melvin Gordon, Mike Davis, and Devin Singletary

💔 Heart Breakers

Antonio Gibson – Gibson has a touchdown in each of the past two games. The Ravens defense has only given up 1 touchdown to the running back position on the season.  If you have your hopes in Gibson, I am so, so sorry.  I don’t know why you did that.

Nick Chubb – The Cowboys defense gives up yards but not touchdowns to the running back position. A negative game script where the Browns are most likely throwing the ball a lot does not play into Chubb’s role as well.  This is a week I wouldn’t be playing him in DFS.  In redraft, if you have him you are playing him, but manage your expectations.

Other running backs that will cost you in week 4: Joe Mixon, Adrian Peterson, and Carlos Hyde.

Wide Receivers

💰 Money Makers

Robert Woods – Woods has had either over 100 yards or a touchdown in each of the first 3 games of the season. The Giants have given up 5 touchdowns to the wide receiver position this season.  Overall, the Giants give up the 11th most points to wide receivers.  Play Woods.   ($6,700 on FanDuel and $6,300 on DraftKings)

DeVante Parker – The favorite target in that passing attack is DeVante Parker. The Seahawks are up in Week 4 for the Dolphins passing attack.  The Seahawks have given up 5 touchdowns and 1,120 yards to wide receivers in the first three weeks.  Parker is practically a MUST play.   ($6,500 on FanDuel and $5,700 on DraftKings)

Odell Beckham Jr. – “Meh” is the best way to describe how well Beckham has produced this season.  Week 4 brings the Cowboys defense.  The Cowboys have allowed 7 touchdowns to wide receivers in first three weeks of this season.  Beckham will score.  ($6,600 on FanDuel and $5,800 on DraftKings)

Other wide receivers to play:

The obvious: DeAndre Hopkins, Tyler Lockett, Devante Adams, and Calvin Ridley.

The not so obvious:  Jarvis Landry, Cole Beasley, Golden Tate, and Preston Williams

💔 Heart Breakers

Kenny Golladay – The Saints have been very good this season against other teams top wide receivers with Marshawn Lattimore shadowing.  Week 4 brings Kenny G into that area.  Expect some catches and about 70 yards, but Golladay will have problems finding the end zone if Lattimore is on him.

D.J. Moore  – The Cardinals defense does a magnificent job of shutting down the wide receiver position so far this season.  Only Terry McLaurin has exceeded 100 yards against them.  You can expect D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson to have some struggles in Week 4.

Other wide receivers will cost you: Julian Edelman, D.J. Chark, Stefon Diggs, and Allen Robinson

Tight Ends

💰 Money Makers

T.J. Hockenson – The Saints are tough against the wide receiver, but they are so friendly to tight ends.  Four tight ends have got touchdowns against the Saints, including Darren Waller and luminaries such as O.J. Howard, Robert Tonyan and Mercedes Lewis.  Hockenson should have a very happy day in Week 4. ($5,400 on FanDuel and $4,800 on DraftKings)

Mark Andrews – After the last two weeks, everyone with Andrews rostered will feel good again.  Week 4 brings the Washington Football Team, who happens to gives up the sixth most fantasy points to the TE position.  Don’t be surprised if you see a touchdown from Andrews this week. ($7,400 on FanDuel and $6,000 on DraftKings)

Darren Waller – Everyone made a big deal after Waller destroyed the Saints defense; well, everyone eats against the Saints.  Against the Patriots, Waller found much tougher going.  The good news is the Bills are 31st in the league against tight end, having given up 245 yards in the first three weeks.  Waller gets back on track in Week 4.  ($6,700 on FanDuel and $5,200 on DraftKings.

Other tight ends to play:

The obvious: George Kittle and Zach Ertz.

The not so obvious: Drew Sample and Noah Fant

💔 Heart Breakers

Tyler Higbee – The Giants have been pretty stingy against the tight end position this season. It’s one of those games where Higbee and to some extent Kupp may struggle in the passing game for the Rams.  You might see Higbee end up with only a few targets.

Travis Kelce – If you have him, you are definitely playing him in redraft.  But if you are considering him for DFS, look somewhere else.  The Patriots have been the toughest team against the tight end position this season.  They shut down Mike Gesicki and Darren Waller, so you can look for them to try and take away Kelce as a weapon for the Chiefs in Week 4.

Other tight ends that will cost you: Mike Gesicki, Hayden Hurst, and Jared Cook.

Trade Target Tilt (Fantasy Football 2020 – Week 4)

0

It is early in the NFL Season and, like much of 2020, it’s already felt as if an entire season of drama has occurred. It’s been especially dramatic when it comes to injuries and disappointing performances from some of our favorite players. But after 3 short weeks, is it OK to go on full tilt on some players?

In a year without a preseason and a shortened training camp, shouldn’t we expect a slow start? It’s hard to chalk up some of this season’s early disappointments to teams just needing time to get up to speed, when other players have already proved their fantasy worth, as well as some exceeding early expectations.

Coupled with the dizzying array of injuries that occurred in Week 2 continuing now in to Week 4, I know some fantasy managers that are already on full tilt. In dynasty, it’s not surprising to see someone already throw in the towel and call this as a rebuild year. They are selling off assets for future draft picks or just dumping the “old guys”. In redraft, it may be the right time to make some moves in order to turn your team around before it starts to get bad. Conversely, it may be just the right time to pick off some pieces from tilting league mates that will turn into gold come fantasy playoff time.

Here are 3 of my early season trade targets for seasonal leagues.

Joe Mixon

The Bad

Is there any other early round draft pick more disappointing so far this season than Joe Mixon? Don’t ask our friend @DaBeezyBFF as he’s the biggest Mixon Stan I know. But with a startup ADP of RB8, (10th overall) his early return on a large investment is hovering in the negative category. He’s healthy, he just got a contract extension, and he’s coming off 2 back-to-back 1,100-yard rushing seasons, but his offensive line is ranked 26th in the league by Brad Wire’s offensive line rankings.

Taking a closer look at his Next Gen Stats, Mixon is only seeing stacked boxes 7.69% of the time, is one of the least efficient rushers (5.4 rating), has one of the worst rushing yards over expected per attempt (-0.63), and in Week 3 did not have a single rush over 10 yards. Well those numbers suck, so why am I recommending you trade for him? Because Mixon is historically a slow starter and he’s still handling 70% of the team’s RB touches in every game he’s played this season. Among some fine company as John Daigle points out.

The Good

The good news is that Mixon is seeing an increase in his snap share (71% in Week 3), rushing an average of 17 times with 3 receptions per game (20 touches/game), and is 6th in rushing attempts (52). The opportunity is there and like any good football team, Zac Taylor will evaluate the deficiencies in the offense and work to make their best player successful. Also, they have a young QB that they spent the overall #1 pick on in this year’s draft to bring up to speed. The offense will not run the same in the 2nd half of the season as it did in the 1st half. Currently Joe Burrow is 2nd in attempts only behind Dak Prescott.

They are trying to get Burrow up to game speed through trial by fire, especially since we missed a preseason for him to practice against other competition. Mixon is on pace for his typical usage in both the rushing and passing game. This all leads me to believe that once the offense is dialed in, Mixon will end up right where he belongs: in the RB1 category. Andy Singleton breaks down Mixon’s stats from last year and you can see the trend line increasing as the season goes on.

Targeting the Tilt

Look to trade an early producing RB that is stuck in a timeshare and has a tough ROS schedule. Some names that come to mind are McKinnon, Burkhead, or Kelley.

DJ Moore

The Bad

One simple search of his name in Twitter from this past week will bring up a bevvy of disappointed DJ Moore shareholders wondering if the young WR decided to retire early. And with good reason: DJ Moore, touted as a top 10 WR all offseason, is now currently sitting at WR28 behind players such as Cole Beasley. When you’re drafting a player at WR9, (27th overall) you’re expecting a lot more from a 2nd/3rd round pick.

While he has started this season very slow, it’s not beyond the norm, as his short three-year career has been made in the second half of each season. In fact, his 2019 numbers through two weeks are nearly identical to his 2020 numbers, as seen below. And as @FantasyReserve puts it, “But yeah, sure, ‘He’s not the same'”.

The Good

Moore had a nice Week 2 due to volume, (13 targets, 8 receptions, 120 yards) but he hasn’t found the end zone yet. Besides a traditionally slow start, some of Moore’s troubles are due to meshing with a new QB and new WR to compete over targets with. Teddy Bridgewater is playing OK, as he’s currently 7th in yards and 3rd in completion percentage.

I was also worried about targets, but Moore is 11th in the league in targets with 26 (9th for WR), and Robby Anderson is only 4 spots behind with 24. However, Robby is also 9th in receptions and 5th in yards. The opportunities are there for Moore, but Anderson is taking greater advantage of his. Moore does account for almost 50% of the team’s yardage on deep throws, so once these deep shots hit, he’ll be back to being a fantasy darling.

Targeting the Tilt

If you have a less-experienced wide receiver on your squad who has flashed early like Allen Lazard, see if you can package him with someone else for Moore.

Marquise Brown

The Bad

Marquise Brown is losing his Hollywood moniker in 2020, as he’s shown very little flash after a promising Week 1. He’ll have to work hard to earn it back and make up for his ADP of WR30, as he’s currently performing as WR62 per Fantasy Pros. He’s had a steady 6 targets each game and was able to make the most of those targets in Week 1. But even though he caught 5 of 6 balls in Week 2, he was only able to turn that into 42 yards and 0 TDs. Week 3 was even worse (2 for 6, 13 yards, 0 TDs).

Another stat hurting Brown’s success is scheme-based, as the Ravens are currently dead last in passing attempts per game with 26 (Team Rankings). They are throwing on 50% of their plays per Zach Krueger (@FFTroglodyte) as shown below. Brown also has only 31 yards after catch, (YAC) but is 16th in average targeted air yards (TAY; 14.1). This means the Ravens are mostly just trying to throw the ball deep to Brown, and they aren’t doing it very often. With how much Lamar Jackson runs the ball, it’s not a good mix for creating a path to real fantasy relevancy for an up-and-coming WR.

The Good

You really have to comb through the data (like using a hair pick to comb the desert) and turn to his prospect profile to find the good with Brown right now. He’s top 50 in snap share at 69.4% so he’s on the field a ton. But as mentioned earlier, the Ravens aren’t passing the ball that much. While he is 16th in TAY, he’s also 9th in percent of team’s air yards (36.7%).

As shown below in the tweet from Jacob Gibbs, he’s in the running with some of the best in the league in hogging air yards. And even though he’s only received 6 targets per game, he’s 7th in the league when it comes to deep targets with 6, averaging 2 per game. Lamar Jackson is trying to hit Brown on those deep shots as opposed to getting him the ball near the line of scrimmage and letting him run with it. Brown has the speed and the Ravens are trying to use that deep threat talent as it should be used, but they need to pump those numbers way up.

Targeting the Tilt

Go after Marquise Brown as a package deal with another stud (Carson/Taylor) for players like Amari Cooper and Nyheim Hines for example.

The perfect trade rarely occurs, and each trade is unique based on roster construction, trade partners, and urgency. If you have any specific questions on trades, feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @2on1FFB as well as the rest of the Undroppables squad!

The Stream Option (Fantasy Football 2020 – Week 4)

The Stream Option is a weekly article where The Undroppables explore the best options at Quarterback, Defense, and Tight End that should be available in most leagues.
*Note: ESPN rostership rates were gathered on 9/30/2020 and may have changed.

Quarterbacks

Jared Goff – LAR vs NYG

Jared Goff is the QB9 through three weeks, including two 20+ point fantasy weeks against Philadelphia and Buffalo in the past two weeks. He plays Week 4 against a Giants defense that has been good against Quarterbacks in fantasy so far. However, Nick Mullens and the 49ers passed for 327 yards last week, and the Giants secondary was expected to be poor before the beginning of the season. For streaming purposes, Jared Goff is only rostered in 45.7% of ESPN leagues. However, as a top 10 fantasy QB, he should be rostered in most, if not all, leagues for the rest of the season.

Joe Burrow – CIN @ JAX

The Jacksonville Jaguars are currently the fifth-worst defense against fantasy quarterbacks, while rookie Joe Burrow is currently the tenth-best fantasy quarterback. Burrow has caught his stride in recent weeks, putting up over 300 yards in each of his last two matchups against Cleveland and Philadelphia. Next week, I expect Burrow to put up similar numbers against the poor Jacksonville secondary. Similar to Goff, Burrow is another option that could be startable throughout the rest of the season and the rookie is still available in 49.3% of ESPN leagues.

Tight Ends

Robert Tonyan – GB vs ATL

The Atlanta Falcons currently rank second-worst in the NFL against the tight end position in fantasy and have given up solid performances to Greg Olsen, Dalton Schultz, and Jimmy Graham. Meanwhile, Packers’ tight end Robert Tonyan has scored in his past two games and is averaging 13.25 points per game after a lackluster week 1 performance. As Tonyan continues to step up his performance and Aaron Rodgers continues to trust him in the passing game, expect Tonyan to continue to produce in fantasy. Also, Packer’s WR Davante Adams is coming off an injury and Tonyan could continue to see an uptick in usage if he is out or limited in week 4. Tonyan is only rostered in 1.5% of ESPN leagues, so he should be available if you need a tight end.

Dalton Schultz – DAL vs CLE

Currently the TE13, Cowboys’ tight end Dalton Schultz is filling in admirably for the injured Blake Jarwin. Shultz has been targeted twenty times so far this season, and with that kind of volume, he has the opportunity for fantasy points every week. Meanwhile, the Browns defense has surrendered the 3rd most points to opposing fantasy tight ends. With the volume Schultz has in the Cowboys’ air attack, he can be an admirable fill-in or stream for managers who lose a tight end to injury throughout the season.

Defenses

Rams D/ST – LAR vs NYG

The Giants have given up the 2nd most points to opposing fantasy defenses, and the combination of the Giants’ poor offensive line and the Rams strong front seven led by Aaron Donald should result in a few fantasy points for the rams defense. With an over/under of only 48, the scoring in this game should be low to average, which will help the Rams D/ST score higher in fantasy. The Rams are only rostered in 58.8% of ESPN leagues, so they should be available to stream this week.

Other Options: Jaguars D/ST (1.3% rostership), Texans D/ST (1.7% rostership)

UNtangling the Waiver Wire (Fantasy Football 2020 – Week 4)

Injuries got you down?  Players you thought would be studs are playing like duds? COVID attacking entire rosters in your sleep? Well then you came to the right place.  We will take a little walk through who is available on the waiver wire this week.  That will help you plug those holes in your line ups for Week 4.

NOTE: This column refers to players rostered in under 50% of Yahoo leagues.

Quarterbacks

Ryan Fitzpatrick – Rostered in 7% of Yahoo leagues. Last week Fitzpatrick was a potential add. This week, he moves up into a must-add if you are QB needy.  When the (Fitz)Magic met the (Minshew) Mania on Thursday Night Football, the Magic won out.  FitzMagic passed for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns and rushed for another 38 yards and a touchdown.  What is truly magical is Fitzpatrick gets a Seattle Defense that is giving up the most yards and second-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.  Looks like a Magic Money Maker to me.

Running Backs

Jeff Wilson – 23% rostered in Yahoo.  Late in the game against the Giants, McKinnon hurt his ribs and did not return.  Wilson ran for 15 yards and a touchdown and had another 54 yards and a touchdown receiving.  If McKinnon is missing time with the rest of the Niners, Wilson will be next man up against the Eagles, who give up 102 yards rushing per game.

Carlos Hyde – 19% rostered in Yahoo. In Seattle’s win over the Cowboys on Sunday, they lost Chris Carson late in the game to a knee sprain.  It appears Carson will be a out a couple of weeks and Hyde is his clear back up.  Hyde has handled a heavy work load in the past, gaining over 1000 yards last season with Houston.  He will fair well in the Seahawks high-powered offense.

Myles Gaskin – 47% rostered in Yahoo.  Gaskin is doing it all as the starter in Miami.  In Week 3 he had 66 yards on 22 carries and had 5 receptions for 29 yards.  I’m actually surprised he’s still available in so many leagues.

Other Running Backs to consider: Rex Burkhead

Wide Receivers

Justin Jefferson – 31% rostered in Yahoo. Jefferson saw a 33% target share from Kirk Cousins in Week 3.  That equated to 9 targets for 7 receptions, 175 yards and a touchdown.  This was Jefferson’s coming out party.

Brandon Aiyuk – 28% rostered in Yahoo.  The Niners were looking for players to produce in Week 3 because of their rash of injuries.  Aiyuk answered the call with 5 receptions for 70 yards on 8 targets. He also saw 3 carries for 31 yards and a score, so he should remain involved this way until Deebo Samuel returns at full health.

Tee Higgins – 5% rostered in Yahoo.  Higgins was targeted 9 times, which he turned into 5 receptions for 40 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Higgins got it done on the outside in Week 3 for the Bengals. Look for more of this as the Bengals are starving for playmakers.

Greg Ward – 1% rostered in Yahoo. Ward appears to have passed rookie Jalen Reagor on the depth chart in Week 3, as he had 11 targets resulting in 8 receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown.   Ward led the team with a 24% target share as well.

Other Wide Receivers to consider: Allen Lazard, Andy Isabella, Braxton Berrios and Corey Davis.

Tight Ends

Mo Alie-Cox – Rostered in 10% of Yahoo leagues. Big Mo was in this article last week too. In Week 2, Mo Alie-Cox had 6 targets for 5 catches and 111 yards.  He followed that up in Week 3 with 3 receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown.  If you need tight end help, I would look to Mo Alie-Cox.

Other Tight Ends to consider: Dalton Schultz and Logan Thomas.
