Money Makers and Heart Breakers (Fantasy Football 2022 – Week 17)

As we close out the year, it is typically the time when people reflect on how the past year went. With that in mind, I wanted to look at where some of the things we do around this time came from. Of course, the new year has always been when people start something new. But, since ancient times, it has been a time for rebirth.

The Winter Solstice is a turning point in the year when the days are getting longer. The Pagans celebrated the return of the sun because of this. Christians welcome the son of God during this time. The Winter Solstice is typically 12 days before New Year’s Day. This is representative of the 12 days of Christmas. Interestingly, these 12 days have always held some meaning for people.

The days between the Winter Solstice and New Year’s Day are a time for setting things straight: thorough housecleaning, paying off debts, returning borrowed objects, reflecting on one’s shortcomings, and mending quarrels. In many cultures, people jump into the sea or a local body of water-literally washing the slate clean. You see people still doing this; for instance, in Boston, there is an event called the Polar Plunge.

Many things we see people doing up to and right after the New Year’s Eve celebration have been this way for a long time. That is because many customs from many cultures believe in ending the year with respect and starting the new year with good intentions.

So let that bad fantasy season you may have had to go. Jump into DFS, starting fresh for you every week, or take a break and prepare for the next season in a few months. Do whatever it is that makes you happy.

Happy New Year!

Here is a brief definition of each of my terms for anyone that might be new:

💔 Heart Breaker – This player will perform lower than expectations

💰 Money Makers

Quarterbacks

Justin Fields

The Bears play the Lions in Week 17. The Lions give up the most fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. In Week 10, Fields lit this Lions’ defense up for 167 yards, two touchdowns passing, another 147 yards, and two more touchdowns rushing. That got him a total of 40.38 points. In the past seven games, only one quarterback has scored less than 20 fantasy points against the Lions. That was Trevor Lawrence, and he got injured during that game. The over-under for this game is 52 points. The Lions will put up points, and the Bears will pass to keep up. Justin will pass all over the fields.

$7,900 on DraftKings
$8,400 on Fanduel

Jared Goff

As I already mentioned, there is a high over-under for this Bears-Lions game of 52 points. So I guess it makes sense that I also like Goff in this game. The Bears give up the 8th most fantasy points to quarterbacks. Goff has passed for multiple touchdowns in four of the last five games. He has a healthy complement of really good-skill players at his disposal. This looks like it will be an entertaining game to watch on top of all the fantasy goodness.

$5,600 on DraftKings
$7,400 on Fanduel

Mike White

The Jets are playing the Seahawks in Week 17. The Seahawks give up the eleventh most points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. White started three games for the Jets before getting hurt, and he passed the ball 129 times in those games. He threw for over 300 yards in two of those games. There will be volume here as the Jets and Seahawks have playoff hopes on the line and will be playing to win this game.

Running Backs

Saquon Barkley

In the past two games, Barkley has been excellent. Over 80 yards and a touchdown rushing in each game. And 18 targets for 13 receptions and 82 yards combined in those games. The Colts are up next. The Colts give up the fifth most fantasy points to opposing teams running backs. A running back scored over 20 points against the Colts in the past three weeks. This is an absolute smash spot for Barkley.

$8,000 on DraftKings
$9,200 on Fanduel

Travis Etienne

The Texans give up the most fantasy points to opposing teams running backs. Running backs average 5.2 yards per carry against the Texans. In Week 5, Etienne had ten carries for 71 yards and three receptions for another 43 yards. This was the start of his taking over as the primary ball carrier for the Jaguars. Etienne has 41 carries for 196 yards over the past two games. He also has three targets in each of those games. He will be involved heavily this week against the Texans. Sacré bleu! Etienne is here for you!

$6,400 on DraftKings
$7,700 on Fanduel

Tyler Allgeier

In the last two games, Allgeier has emerged for the Falcons. He has 35 carries for 213 yards and a touchdown during those two games, producing two excellent double-digit fantasy days. In Week 17, the Falcons are playing against the Cardinals, who give up the sixth most fantasy points to opposing teams running backs. The Cardinals have given up double-digit fantasy scores to running backs for the past five games. In the past two games, we have seen two running backs per team score double-digit fantasy points against this team. Plug him in and win!

Wide Receivers

Davante Adams

Adams has 1290 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Adams has a 32.6% target share and 41.2% air yards share. He dominates the Raiders’ passing game. He had a bad game in Week 16 with only two receptions, but he still saw nine targets. Jarrett Stidham will take over at quarterback for the Raiders in Week 17. The Raiders are playing against the Niners. The Niners give the sixth most fantasy points to opposing teams’ wide receivers. In Week 16, not one or two, but three Commanders wide receivers scored double-digit fantasy points against this Niners’ defense. With his volume, this is a great bounce-back game for Adams.

$8,500 on DraftKings
$8,000 on Fanduel

Christian Watson

Watson is day to day with a hip injury. The Vikings are up next for the Packers. The Vikings give opposing teams’ wide receivers the second most fantasy points. Wide receivers average 15 receptions and 204 yards against the Vikings. If he is active, I play Watson; if not, I’ll pivot to Romeo Doubs. Watson saw eight targets which he turned into six receptions for 49 yards before leaving the game with a hip injury in Week 16. He gets volume and has a nose for the end zone. These are great things to have in a great matchup for a DFS play or even a fantasy championship game: Elementary, my dear Watson.

$5,900 on DraftKings
$7,600 on Fanduel

Jerry Jeudy

Denver is pretty bad. They also just fired their head coach. So why would you consider playing Jeudy in Week 17? Well, they play the Chiefs, and you can pass on them. You also have to pass on the Chiefs to stay in the game. The Chiefs give up 13 receptions, 154 yards, and a touchdown on average to wide receivers every week. That becomes the sixth most fantasy point to wide receivers. Jeudy has double-digit fantasy scores in each of his last three games. He has 27 targets for 21 receptions, 266 yards, and three touchdowns over this stretch. That is a 26.3% target share, a whopping 35.6% share of the air yards, and a 77.8% catch rate. Jeudy, Jeudy, Jeudy.

Tight Ends

George Kittle

Purdy to Kittle is an actual thing. With  Purdy at the helm, Kittle has 13 targets, ten receptions, 233 yards, and four touchdowns over the past two games. The Niners play the Raiders, and the Raiders give up the eleventh most fantasy points to opposing teams’ tight ends. Kittle leads the Niners with Purdy as the quarterback with a 26.1% target share. He is heavily involved as a downfield target with 31.8% of the air yards. Kittle is great if you want to pay up at the tight end.

$5,900 on DraftKings
$7,400 on Fanduel

Cole Kmet

Back to the Bears and Lions game here. The Lions give up the fifth most points to opposing teams’ tight ends. The Bears’ wide receivers are not so good, and Kmet is heavily involved in the passing game. Kmet leads the Bears in target share with 19.6%. He also has the most receiving touchdowns on the Bears with 5. In Week 10 against this same Lions defense, Kmet hauled in 4 receptions for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Great spot to plug him in as the Bears will need to score in this game.

💔Heart Breakers

Quarter Backs

Patrick Mahomes

Mahomes had 352 yards and three touchdowns the last time these two teams met. So I am not pretending he is a lousy play season-long. I would be playing him if he got you to the championship, without a doubt. I have him here because only two quarterbacks have surpassed 20 fantasy points against the Broncos this season. The Broncos give up the least amount of fantasy points to quarterbacks. So, I wouldn’t play him in DFS. He costs too much to play in a bad matchup for me there.

Carson Wentz

Wentz is back to starting for the Commanders. It’s too bad for him it is against the Browns. The Browns give up the third-fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. Over the past seven games, only one quarterback has scored more than 20 fantasy points against this defense. They have held the likes of Joe Burrow (Week 14) and Josh Allen (Week 11) below 20 fantasy points. For Allen, it was his worst performance of the season. For Burrow, it was his third worst. I don’t even want to play Wentz in super flex. Thoughtfully I could have added him and done this, and I didn’t. YUCK!

Trevor Lawrence

I am not afraid to play Lawrence for season-long. You may have to. But teams don’t have to pass that much against the Texans; they simply prefer to run the ball repeatedly. Over and over and over to get the win. So I think we see a heavy dose of Etienne in Week 17.

Running Backs

Josh Jacobs

The Niners give up the least amount of fantasy points to running backs. Only three running backs have hit double-digit fantasy points against the Niner this season. Jacobs will probably make four, but I wouldn’t count on him scoring 20 or more fantasy points this week and avoiding any DFS play this week.

Raheem Mostert / Jeff Wilson Jr.

The Patriots are up next to the Dolphins. The Patriots give up the second-fewest fantasy points to running backs. Both of these guys just became very touchdown-dependent for Week 17. That is what they will need to break double-digit fantasy points against the Patriots. Play them if you need them for season-long; I hope you don’t need them.

Nick Chubb

Deshaun Watson is coming to save the Browns’ season. YUCK, I think everyone meant to destroy their season or at least destroy Chubb’s fantasy value. Chubb went from this fantastic weekly double-digit scoring machine to flex play at best since Watson took over at quarterback. To top it off, the Browns play the Commanders in Week 17, and the Commanders are tough against running backs. It feels horrible saying yuck, but yuck.

Wide Receivers

Christian Kirk

I had Kirk here last week; he truly broke my heart. I knew it was coming, but it still hurt me/ This week, he has another tough matchup against the Texans. The Texans give up the fourth-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers. The Jaguars have proven they will spread the ball around to whichever players will help them win. (I love that, by the way). So this week, look for Evan Engram and Etienne to produce and Kirk and Zay Jones to take somewhat of a back seat. Just great real football from the Jags.

Juju Smith-Schuster

The Broncos give the fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ wide receivers. But in Week 14, Juju had nine receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown against this defense. So, I don’t recommend playing him in DFS. But I am secretly hoping that he at least repeats what he did in Week 14.

Garrett Wilson

Just like Juju, I hate writing about Wilson here. The matchup is terrible. The Jets are playing against the Seahawks, and the Seahawks give up the third-fewest points to opposing teams’ wide receivers. I want Wilson to produce a lot this week. I love Wilson. He may be my favorite rookie. So even though I have him here, I am hoping for a touchdown to push him into double-digit fantasy points this week. It will be him with Mike White at QB if anyone can do it. Maybe he should be a Money Maker?

Tight Ends

Darren Waller

The Raiders are playing the Niners in Week 17. The Niners are tough against tight ends, and Waller has been just OK when he is playing. Only three tight ends this season have scored double-digit fantasy points against the Niners. I am honestly getting a bucket for this one.

Most other Tight Ends

Too many tight ends to name here. A tight end across the board is like eating one of those jelly beans from Harry Potter, you know, every flavor of beans, and you seem only to get vomit, crap, or something else disgusting every time you eat one.

Good luck this week!

Money Makers and Heart Breakers (Fantasy Football 2022 – Week 16)

One thing that always puzzles me this time of year is when people are upset at being wished “Happy Holidays,” “Merry Christmas, or even “Happy Hanukkah,” or whatever holiday you specifically celebrate. Someone is wishing you well, and we all should be grateful when people wish us well.

So, in this time of cheer, I wish you a pleasant holiday, no matter which you celebrate. Please take the time to enjoy some moments with family and friends.

I can help you win a little DFS money this weekend to offset whatever you spent on the holiday.

I have two notes that I need you to read below:

NOTE: Please remember I will be running a playoff challenge jointly with Ride Hard Breathe Easy again to support this charity. We would love to have you play. If you would like to participate, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

NOTE: The Main slate for this week is Saturday, Dec 24th. I have some players for the Sunday Slate as well. All players playing on Sunday have the word Sunday next to them in parenthesis. Everyone else is in the Saturday main slate.

Here is a brief definition of each of my terms for anyone that might be new:

💰 Money Maker – This player will perform better than expectations

💔 Heart Breaker – This player will perform lower than expectations

💰 Money Makers

Quarterbacks

Sam Darnold

In Week 16, the Panthers play the Lions. The Lions give up the most fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. The Lions have given up multiple touchdowns to quarterbacks in 5 out of the last six games. Only Trevor Lawrence didn’t, and that was because of injury. Yes, even Zach Wilson threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns last week against the Lions. Darnold is getting back into the swing of things, and this is an excellent opportunity for him to produce this season.

$5,100 on DraftKings
$6,700 on Fanduel

Geno Smith

The Chiefs give the fourth most fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. The Chiefs have given up multiple touchdown days to quarterbacks in 3 of the last four games. Russell Wilson and Davis Mills were two quarterbacks who weren’t lighting the world on fire. Meanwhile, Geno has double-digit touchdowns in 11 games this season. That is also 7 out of the last eight games too. This is the bounce back from the tough Niners defense last week.

$5,800 on DraftKings
$7,600 on Fanduel

Josh Allen

The Bills play the Bears in week 16. The Bears give up the ninth most points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. Allen has multiple touchdowns in 3 of the last four games. He is currently the third-highest-scoring on the season. He has thrown for 30 touchdowns already, and this is an excellent spot for him to increase that number. They are coming off 304 yards and a 4-touchdown game.

Running Backs

Derrick Henry

Derrick Henry has been a beast all season. He has 1303 yards and 12 touchdowns rushing on the season. He also has another 379 yards receiving. He has a 10.6% target share, the highest of his career. So Henry is getting it done on the ground and in the air. He also gets to play the Texans this week. The Texans give up the most fantasy points to opposing teams running backs. In Week 8, Henry had 219 yards and two touchdowns rushing against this Texans team. Henry sees Texans; Henry smashes Texans.

$8,600 on DraftKings
$9,800 on Fanduel

Jerrick McKinnon

McKinnon has been the top-scoring running back in fantasy for two weeks. McKinnon has scored four touchdowns over the past two games. During this two games stretch, he has 60% snap share at running back, 20.5% target share, 17 targets, 15 receptions, 182 yards, and three touchdowns receiving and 74 yards and one touchdown rushing. He is averaging 4.6 yards per carry and 12.1 yards per reception. The Chiefs play the Seahawks in week 16. The Seahawks give up the second most fantasy points to opposing teams running backs. So the table is set for McKinnon and Pacheco to have a holiday feast. Yes, I do like both guys again this week.

$5,900 on DraftKings
$7,300 on Fanduel

Raheem Mostert (Sunday)

In Week 15, Mostert ran the ball 17 times for 136 yards. He also had two targets which he turned into two receptions for another 20 yards. In Week 16, the Dolphins are playing the Packers. The Packers give up the ninth most fantasy points to opposing teams running backs. If Wilson is out again, Mostert should have another spectacular fantasy day.

Wide Receivers

DK Metcalf

Metcalf has 28% target and 36.8% air yards share during the last four games for the Seahawks. With Tyler Lockett out for Week 16, Metcalf will be the focal point of the passing attack. The Seahawks are playing against the Chiefs, and the Chiefs give up the fifth most fantasy points to wide receivers. The Chiefs have given up 19 touchdowns to wide receivers on the season. A wide receiver has scored a touchdown against the Chiefs in 5 of the last six games. This week it is Metcalf’s turn.

$7,100 on DraftKings
$8,000 on Fanduel

DJ Moore

The Lions are up next for the Panthers. The Lions give opposing teams’ wide receivers the second most fantasy points. Last week DJ Moore 6 targets for five receptions, 73 yards, and a touchdown against the Steelers. Darnold will look for him. Since Darnold has been back, Moore has a 26.8% target share of the Panthers’ passing game. He also has a whopping 56.3% of the air yards. The Panthers will need to pass to stay in this game. I like this matchup for Moore.

$5,500 on DraftKings
$7,100 on Fanduel

Chris Moore

The Texans play the Titans in Week 16. The Titans give the most fantasy points to opposing teams’ wide receivers. The Titans give up an average of 15 receptions, 193 yards, and a touchdown per week to wide receivers. Over the past two games, Moore has a 37.3% share of the Texans’ targets. He also has had 40% of the air yards. That is 19 targets for 14 receptions and 166 yards. The matchup is right; he gets another shot against a team that doesn’t defend the pass well.

Tight Ends

Cade Otton (Sunday)

Otton feels like a dart throw, even though he has the easiest matchup for a tight end in week 16. The Buccaneers play the Cardinals in week 16. The Cardinals have given up eight games of double-digit fantasy points this season to tight ends. Yes, That is the most. Otton has been up and down as the Buccaneers spread the ball around very well. This is the week to plug and play with him. He leads the Bucs in snaps at tight end; he gets targeted by Brady somewhat regularly. Otton is a friendly little plug-and-play in Week 16.

$3,000 on DraftKings
$4,900 on Fanduel

Travis Kelce

The Seahawks give up the second most fantasy points to tight ends. The Chiefs play the Seahawks in Week 16. Yet again, Travis Kelce has a career year as fantasy’s number one tight end. Suppose that isn’t enough for you to pay for Kelce in DFS. Kelce leads the Chiefs in target share with 24.5%, air yards share with 24.2%, receiving yards with 1144, and receiving touchdowns with 12. So pay up and play him.

💔Heart Breakers

Quarter Backs

Baker Mayfield

Mayfield isn’t so great at football. The Rams’ passing attack looks pretty bad. To top it off, the Rams are playing the Broncos in Week 16. The Broncos give the least amount of points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. If you want to be cute here for some unknown reason, don’t. After thinking about the possibility of playing Mayfield, I threw a little in my mouth. This is gross.

Taylor Heinicke

Heinicke hasn’t been excellent himself. However, in Week 16, he also gets an incredibly tough matchup against the Niners. The Niners haven’t had a quarterback crack 20 points against them in over seven games. Meanwhile, Heinicke has only one game of over 20 fantasy points. Yes, sometimes this analysis stuff is that simple. Yuck!

Dak Prescott

Dak had a great game last week against the Jaguars. With 256 yards and three touchdowns, that is good. He was a money-maker in this article last week too. This week Dak gets to play against the Eagles. The Eagles give up the third-fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. This looks like a heavy dose of Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott for the Cowboys in Week 16.

Running Backs

Brian Robinson

As we know, the Commanders are playing the Niners in Week 16. The Niners give up the fewest points to opposing teams running backs. Only four running backs have scored more than ten fantasy points against the Niners all season. Robinson is in for some tough sledding in Week 16. Unfortunately, I think all he will get is coal.

Joe Mixon

Do you know who else doesn’t give up a lot of fantasy production to running backs? That would be the Patriots. The Patriots give up the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing teams running backs. The Bengals, unfortunately, are playing the Patriots in Week 16. On top of the tough match, Mixon gives up snaps and touches to Samaje Perine. This is a perfect situation to avoid in DFS.

Texans Running Backs

Dare Ogunbawale and Rex Burkhead are both to be avoided in Week 16. The Texans play the Titans, and the Titans may give up many points to wide receivers, but they give up the third-fewest fantasy points to running backs. On top of the tough matchup, let’s not pretend these guys played poorly last week. The Texans are in shambles.

Wide Receivers

Christian Kirk

The Jaguars have a tough matchup with the Jets in Week 16. That may not mean much to Trevor Lawrence. But it does to the wide receivers. The Jets give the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ wide receivers. Kirk is an avoid in DFS for Week 16, although he could have a decent floor game in season-long. Nevertheless, I am playing him if I have him in the fantasy playoffs.

Juju Smith-Schuster

As Juju’s targets go, so goes Juju. In the last six games, Juju has had three double-digit fantasy days and three days with five or fewer points. The matchup in Week 16 is tough. The Chiefs are playing the Seahawks, who give up the third-fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ wide receivers. I see Kelce and McKinnon being target monsters this week and Juju missing out.

Robert Woods

Not just Woods but any Titans wide receiver. In Week 8, Woods saw two targets which he turned into two receptions and 26 yards. The Titans can and will run all over the Texans in week 16. Avoid at all costs. Trust me; you are not this desperate.

Tight Ends

George Kittle

The Commanders give up the fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ tight ends. Kittle is a great player in a tough matchup. In the season long, by all means, play him again. But there have been only two double-digit fantasy games for tight ends against the Commanders’ defense all season. So this is not the place to pay up for Kittle in DFS.

David Njoku

The Saints give up the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ tight ends. Even though they are second here, they have only given up one double-digit fantasy day to opposing teams’ tight ends. The match is horrible. Here is hoping for Njoku’s volume overcoming the matchup in Week 16 if you are playing him season-long. But avoid him in DFS.

Good luck this week!

Money Makers and Heart Breakers (Fantasy Football 2022 – Week 15)

Please remember I will be running a playoff challenge jointly with Ride Hard Breathe Easy again to support this charity. We would love to have you play.

If you didn’t make the playoffs in your season-long leagues, please remember I will still be here for DFS for weeks and weeks. If you haven’t played DFS before, feel free to ping me with a DM on Twitter or wherever you connect with me, and I’ll help you figure out how to get started.

One of the biggest things to remember about fantasy football is we play it for enjoyment. We don’t play it to be stressed over who to start or how my team is doing. We don’t play it to fight over league rules with other people. Instead, we played it because we enjoyed playing it.

Have fun, and good luck in Week 15.

If you are new here, this column can be used to help you handle some sit/start questions you might have, but its primary purpose is to take you through the main DFS slate weekly with players that will make you money and players that will break your heart.

If you are interested, we have a giveaway going on:

Here is a brief definition of each of my terms for anyone that might be new:

Quarterbacks

Mike White

In Week 15, the Jets play the Lions. The Lions give up the most fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. The Lions have given up multiple touchdowns to quarterbacks in five of the last seven games. White had a tough go against the Bills in Week 14, but their defense is good. In the two games before that, White threw for over 300 yards in each game. His teammates are supporting him. He has a great matchup. Feels like another 300-yard game in Week 15.

$5,400 on DraftKings
$7,000 on Fanduel

Justin Herbert

Herbert has had multiple touchdowns or over 300 yards in the last four games. This coincides with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams getting healthy. In funny how a full complement of wide receivers can help a quarterback. The Chargers play the Titans in week 15. The Titans give the second most fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. The past two weeks, Trevor Lawrence and Jalen Hurts each passed for three touchdowns and ran for another against this Titans’ defense. This is the perfect blow-up spot for Herbert

$7,200 on DraftKings
$8,300 on Fanduel

Jared Goff

Over the past four weeks, Jared Goff has been the overall QB8. Over the past two games, he has been the overall QB3. He has multiple touchdowns in 3 straight games and over 300 yards in the past two games. The Jets are an excellent defense. But Goff finally had a full complement of skill position players around him this season, which has made a massive difference in this offense. This is another 21 fantasy points with 240 yards and multiple touchdowns for Goff.

Running Backs

Isaiah Pacheco & Jerick McKinnon

The Texans give up the most fantasy points to running backs. Pacheco has double-digit fantasy points in 4 straight games. McKinnon blew up last week with 28 fantasy points against the Broncos. Both backs will get plenty of runs. Pacheco is averaging 4.9 yards per carry, and the Texans give up an average of 5 yards per carry. That is 18 carries for 141 yards and a touchdown weekly to running backs. Last week, Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliot surpassed 15 fantasy points against the Texans. Great spot to play both of these guys this week.

Derrick Henry

The Chargers give up the fifth most fantasy points to opposing teams running backs. This season, running backs scored double-digit fantasy points against the Chargers. One of the most consistent things about this is the running backs getting volume have run over the Chargers (see what I did there). Henry is the RB4 on the season so far. He already has over 1000 yards and 11 touchdowns on the season. Henry also has a 10% target share in the passing game. He should have a massive game in Week 15. The stars are entirely aligned.

$8,000 on DraftKings
$8,900 on Fanduel

Pierre Strong

Pierre Strong came in and played in relief of an injured Rhamondre Stevenson in Week 14. Kevin Harris played more snaps, but Strong was the better running back. Strong had five carries for 70 yards, a touchdown, and two receptions for another 20 yards. The Patriots are playing the Raiders in Week 15. The Raiders give up the 7th most points fantasy points to opposing teams running backs. The Patriots like to use their running backs a lot. The Raiders don’t defend the position well. I feel Strong this week.

Wide Receivers

Keenan Allen

Allen is back and healthy. In the four games of his return, his target share is 25.3%. In the last two games, he has had 14 targets each game for a 30% target share. The volume will be there in Week 15 for Allen. This gets even better because the Chargers play the Titans in Week 15. The Titans give up the most fantasy points to wide receivers weekly. Seventeen different wide receivers have scored double-digit fantasy points against the Titans. So far, the Titans have given up 18 touchdowns to wide receivers. Great week to play Allen and Mike Williams. It is the best matchup these guys will see this season.

$6,800 on DraftKings
$8,000 on Fanduel

Garrett Wilson

The Lions are up next for the Jets. The Lions give opposing teams’ wide receivers the third most fantasy points. Three wide receivers for the Vikings scored double-digit fantasy points against the Lions in Week 14. Since Mike White has taken over at quarterback, Wilson has seen 23.8% target share and 39.4% of the air yards. He has 335 yards and two touchdowns. He has 30 targets and 19 receptions in this 3-game stretch. The matchup is friendly; he is the clear-cut number 1 option in the Jets’ passing game. So you cannot go wrong with playing Wilson in week 15.

$6,000 on DraftKings
$7,800 on Fanduel

Chris Moore

In Week 14, Moore had 11 targets. He turned that into ten receptions and 124 yards. That was against the Cowboys. Moore had a 44% target share and 42.5% air yards share in Week 14. The Cowboys are good at defense. In Week 15, the Texans play the Chiefs. The Chiefs give up the 4th most fantasy points to wide receivers. That is because teams have to pass against the Chiefs to stay in the game. If Nico Collins is out again in Week 15, I am playing Moore.

Tight Ends

Greg Dulcich

Courtland Sutton got hurt in Week 13. Dulcich became the target monster in his absence. Dulcich led the Broncos in targets with 8. In Week 14, Dulcich also had eight targets. In the last two games, he leads the Broncos with a 25% target share. He also leads the Broncos with 36.4% of the air yards. He has 14.1 yards per reception. The Cardinal who give up the most fantasy points to tight ends is the opponent in Week 15. Tight ends averaged seven receptions and 73 yards against the Cardinals. With Duclich’s volume, I’m playing him here. Volume is king.

$3,600 on DraftKings
$5,600 on Fanduel

Dalton Schultz

Schultz is second on the Cowboys in target share with 18% on the season. Schultz has double-digit fantasy scores in 4 of the last five games. The Cowboys are playing the Jaguars in Week 15. The Jaguars give up the 9th most fantasy points to opposing teams’ tight ends. It is a great week to plug him in.

💔Heart Breakers

Quarter Backs

Justin Fields

Fields has been great when healthy since taking over as the starter for the Bears. But in Week 15, the Bears are playing the Eagles. The Eagles give the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. Not a single quarterback this season has scored 20 or more fantasy points against the Eagles.

Trevor Lawrence

The Jaguars finished an excellent five-game stretch, and Lawrence was great. Super easy matchups agree with him. In Week 15, all of that changes as the Jaguars play the Cowboys. Only one quarterback has scored more than 20 fantasy points against the Cowboys this season. The Cowboys give up the 4th fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. Lawrence hasn’t fared so well against difficult matchups this season. In the three games he has played against top 10 defenses against quarterbacks, Lawrence has only broken ten fantasy points once. YUCK.

Geno Smith

The Seahawks are playing the Niners in Week 15. The Seahawks played the Niners. In Week 2, Geno Smith had 197 yards and an interception. I’m not too fond of the matchup. If you have better options, I will avoid playing him even season-long this week. Especially with the lack of support, he is getting in the run game.

Running Backs

Travis Homer

As we know, the Seahawks are playing the Niners in Week 15. The Niners give up the fewest points to opposing teams running backs. Homer was not good in Week 14, covering for Kenneth Walker. With the toughest matchup possible, I am expecting even less. Remember to brush your teeth after this puke fest.

Josh Jacobs

The Raiders are playing the Patriots in Week 15. The Patriots give the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing teams running backs. So yes, if you have Jacobs, you are playing him season-long. But no, do not play him in DFS. The risk is too significant when you can get good production at a fraction of the price.

Travis Etienne

The Cowboys defense is good, not just against the pass but also against the run. The Cowboys give up the fourth fewest points to opposing teams running backs. Etienne is another guy you are playing season-long, but it should be avoided in DFS.

Wide Receivers

DeAndre Hopkins

Kyler Murray is hurt and will miss the rest of the season. I don’t trust Colt McCoy. The Broncos give up the least amount of fantasy points to opposing teams’ wide receivers. Everything says yuck. I am not interested here at all if you can avoid it.

Justin Jefferson

The Colts give the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ wide receivers. Jefferson will probably still score in double digits but temper your expectations some. I am avoiding DFS and playing season-long. You can find the production you think Jefferson would give you in the Chargers wide receivers for a lower price this week in DFS.

Mike Evans

I have Mike Evans rostered on a season-long team. He didn’t help me much. The Bengals are tough against wide receivers. This looks like a Fournette and White game regarding catching the ball.

Tight Ends

Daniel Bellinger

The Commanders give up the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ tight ends. People were excited that Bellinger was returning from his injury because the Giants needed some help in their offense. Instead, the Commanders held Bellinger to 5 receptions for 24 yards in Week 13. In Week 14, Bellinger only had three receptions for 19 yards. The bright spot is Bellinger is catching everything thrown his way. The negative is that the volume is low, and the yardage is low.

Evan Engram

Engram was the top-scoring tight end in Week 14. He went nuts. That was then, and this is now. The Cowboys give up the least amount of fantasy points to opposing teams’ tight ends. Do you know how many tight ends have hit ten or more fantasy points against the Cowboys? The correct answer is 0. That’s right, no one has. I wouldn’t play Engram anywhere this week. Don’t chase those points.

Good luck this week!

Untangling the Waiver Wire (Fantasy Football 2022 – Fantasy Playoff Edition)

This is my last Untangling the Wire for the season. If you make the playoffs, I hope you will grab some guys that can help you get through the first two weeks and make it to the championship. I want to thank you all for reading my articles every week. Remember, if you didn’t make the playoffs, you could still play DFS and the NFL Playoff Challenge. I will run another NFL Playoff Challenge for Ride Hard Breathe Easy again this season. Please join!

For this article, I mention playoff schedules; the team’s rank in fantasy points allowed to opposing teams is listed in parenthesis next to the team name. So, for instance (1st) would mean that that team gives up the most points to the opposing team’s position of whatever that player is.

Good luck in the playoffs!

May your Waiver Wire Dreams come true tonight!

NOTE: If you are new here, this column refers to players rostered in under 50% of Yahoo, ESPN, and Sleeper Leagues.

Quarterbacks

Mike White

This is the third week I am writing about Mike White. In Week 12 threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns. In Week 13, he threw for 369 yards and ran for 7 yards and a touchdown. I wrote not to play him against the Bills because it was a tough matchup. He left the game multiple times for what appears to be some rib injury. If you have a QB issue or it was simply a weak position for you, the schedule the Jets have moving forward is the Lions (1st) in Week 15, followed by the Jaguars (8th) in Week 16, and in championship week, the Jets play the Seahawks (13th).

Brock Purdy

Mr. Irrelevant, my ass. Purdy is relevant for the Niners and could be for you if you need some help at quarterback in the fantasy playoffs. He has multiple touchdowns passing in 2 straight games and ran for another touchdown in his second NFL game against the Buccaneers in Week 14. The skill position players are good for the Niners. The schedule is also friendly. Seahawks in Week 15 (13th), Commanders in Week 16 (14th), and the Raiders in championship week.

Other quarterbacks to consider if you are desperate:

  • Mac Jones – Raiders (3rd), Bengals (27th) and Dolphins (5th)
  • Sam Darnold – Steelers (9th), Lions (1st) and Buccaneers (22nd)

Running Backs

Zonovan Knight

The third week of writing about him is almost dull, but this guy might be a league winner. I added him to many teams. He filled up the stat sheet in Weeks 13 and 14. In Week 14, he had 17 carries for 71 yards, a touchdown, and two receptions for 6 yards. The schedule is favorable: Lions (20th), the Jaguars (11th), and the Seahawks (2nd) in the fantasy playoffs. The Jets coaches said they would use them, and they have. So if he is still available in your league, add him now.

Chuba Hubbard

In Week 14, Hubbard ran 14 times for 74 yards and a touchdown. He was also targeted three times and caught three passes for another 25 yards. Foreman still played more snaps, but Hubbard was very productive. This was a three-headed running back by committee that I don’t love, but we have to mention him here with this production. With the Steelers (19th) and the Lions (20th) in the first two weeks of the Fantasy playoffs, Hubbard may have some flex appeal as a floor play.

Other running backs to consider if you are desperate:

  • Joshua Kelley – Plays 40% of the snaps and is the clear backup to Ekeler
  • Marlon Mack – Played 32% of snaps, two receptions, 62 yards, TD
  • Pierre Strong – 70 yards, TD, 2 targets, 2 receptions, 20 yards

NOTE: Rhamondre Stevenson suffered an injury during the Monday Night Football game and Pierre Strong took over as the Patriots primary running back.

Wide Receivers

Corey Davis

Davis left the Jets’ Week 14 games after getting a knee to his helmet. Since he has been back in the line-up, he has been productive. The schedule is one where the Jets will be throwing, yes, even against the Bills. The Jets need to get wins to get into the playoffs. His matchups are excellent in the first two rounds of the fantasy playoffs. The Lions (5th) Week 15 and the Jaguars (9th) Week 16. There is a tough matchup against the Seahawks in championship week, but you must get there first.

DJ Chark

He is back, and he is healthy. He has increased targets each of the past three weeks. Over the past three games, he is second in target share for the Lions, behind only Amon-Ra St. Brown with 15%. He leads the Lions in air yards with 39.7%. He has double-digit fantasy scores in two straight games. The fantasy playoff schedule is demanding, but the Lions’ offense is good, with everyone healthy

Chris Moore

With Nico Collins out, Moore was outstanding in Week 14. Moore saw 11 targets which he turned into ten receptions for 124 yards. It is a thing of beauty because the Texans have this fantastic fantasy playoff schedule of Chiefs (4th), Titans (1st), and Jaguars (9th) for passing offenses to score fantasy points against. So I am adding away on Moore everywhere you can.

Other wide receivers to consider:

  • Elijah Moore – 10 targets, six receptions, 60 yards
  • Richie James – 9 Targets, seven receptions, 61 yards, TD
  • Ben Skowronek – 8 Targets, seven receptions, 89 yards

NOTE: Ben Skowronek had a 23% target share and played every single snap for the Rams in Week 14. I may be too low on him because the schedule is brutal. I would like to see what Baker Mayfield can do next week before going nuts.

Tight Ends

Chigoziem Okonkwo

Getting Chiggy with it, (Na na na na na na na). I would have had him in this column last week if I had known that Burks would miss the game. But, instead, in Week 14, Chig got six targets which he turned in 6 receptions, 45 yards, and a touchdown. He also caught a 2 point conversion.

14% rostered on Yahoo

Hunter Henry

Henry’s fantasy playoff schedule is the Raiders (7th), the Bengals (16th), and the Dolphins (3rd). This schedule is super easy for a tight end. The Patriots will be playing to try and make the playoffs. The passing offense needs him to step up. I like Henry the rest of the way.

51% rostered on Yahoo
30% rostered on ESPN
44% rostered on Sleeper
15% Free Agent Budget

Other tight ends to consider:

Austin Hooper: 5 targets, five receptions, 68 yards

Evan Engram: 15 targets, 11 receptions, 162 yards, 2 TDs

NOTE: I had Engram in here last week as well. The Jaguars’ passing game schedule is not very favorable throughout the fantasy playoffs. I would add him if I need a tight end, but I would count on this type of production again this season.

Money Makers and Heart Breakers (Fantasy Football 2022 – Week 14)

For those reading this playing in season-long leagues, this is the last week you have before the fantasy playoffs. Good luck! Remember, if you don’t make the playoffs in your league, you can keep playing fantasy by participating in the NFL Playoff Challenge. I will again run a playoff challenge with Ride Hard Breathe Easy to support this charity. Of course, you can also play DFS!!

Are you ready for some football?

If you are new here, this column can be used to help you handle some sit/start questions you might have, but its primary purpose is to take you through the main DFS slate weekly with players that will make you money and players that will break your heart.

Here is a brief definition of each of my terms for anyone that might be new:

💰 Money Maker – This player will perform better than expectations

💔 Heart Breaker – This player will perform lower than expectations

💰 Money Makers

Quarterbacks

Kirk Cousins

In Week 14, the Vikings play the Lions. The Lions give up the most fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. This game has an over/under of 53 points, the highest on the main slate. Cousins had a rough Week 13 against the Jets, but the Jets’ defense is excellent. Cousins has been up and down this season for fantasy production. This is an up week.

Trevor Lawrence

Lawrence is the only quarterback in the last four games that didn’t come through big against the Lions. That’s OK. This week the Jaguars play the Titans. The Titans give up the second most fantasy points weekly to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. The Titans have given up either 250 yards or multiple touchdowns in 5 straight games. This looks like it will be 250 yards and two TD games for Lawrence.

$5,700 on DraftKings
$7,200 on Fanduel

Jared Goff

The Lions play the Vikings in Week 14. The over/under for this game was stated earlier and is 53. That’s a lot of points. The Vikings give the seventh most fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. In 4 out of the last six games, a quarterback has passed for over 300 yards against the Vikings. Goff has passed for multiple touchdowns in two straight games. In Week 13, he also threw for 340 yards. The Lions are finally healthy and loaded at the skill positions. This is an excellent smash spot for Goff in Week 14.

Running Backs

Ezekiel Elliott (Tony Pollard too)

The Texans give up the most fantasy points to running backs. Zeke has double-digit fantasy scores in 5 straight games. Pollard has double-digit fantasy scores in 5 out of the last six games. Dallas runs the ball about 50% of the time. Each of these running backs has eight touchdowns on the season; there should be plenty of fantasy goodness for both Cowboys running backs week. Cowboy up, folks!

Tony Pollard

D’Onta Foreman

The Panthers are playing the Seahawks in Week 14. The Seahawks give up the second most fantasy point to running backs. Foreman gets most of the snaps and most of the fantasy production at running back since Christian McCaffrey was traded to the Niners. Running backs averaged 112 yards and a touchdown rushing per week against the Seahawks. Hey, even Cam Akers had two touchdowns against this team last week. I am playing Foreman everywhere I can.

$5,400 on DraftKings
$6,900 on Fanduel

Samaje Perine

Perine has been a monster since Mixon has been out. Perines’ numbers for the last three weeks are staggering. In Week 11, he smashed three receiving touchdowns when Mixon left the game. In Week 12, he had 58 yards rushing, a touchdown, and another 35 yards receiving. In Week 13, he had 106 yards rushing and another 49 yards receiving. To top it off, in Week 14, the Bengals are playing the Browns, who give up the third most fantasy points to running backs. He has also been these three weeks over these three weeks with a 17% target share. He is simply doing it all over the field. Perine will stiff-arm his way to yards after contact again in Week 14.

Wide Receivers

Amon-Ra St. Brown

The Detroit Lions play the Vikings in Week 14. I believe I already mentioned that the over-under is 53 for this game. The Vikings give up 15 receptions and 203 yards to wide receivers weekly. The Sun God has had a 30% target share over the past three games. He catches 90% of those targets. Thirty targets and 27 receptions. He has also had 312 yards and three touchdowns in this time frame—a crazy smash spot to pay up for St. Brown. So get your sunglasses and tanning lotion out, as Amon-Ra will shine bright in Week 14.

$7,800 on DraftKings
$8,600 on Fanduel

Christian Kirk

The Titans give up the most fantasy points to wide receivers weekly. Kirk saw eight targets in Week 13 which he turned into six receptions and 104 yards. Kirk has a 26% target share and 35% of the air yards over the past four games. It is an excellent spot for Kirk to keep going. It looks like another 100-yard game and a TD will be in the Captain’s log this week.

$6,600 on DraftKings
$7,600 on Fanduel

Justin Jefferson

Jefferson already has 1277 yards and six touchdowns this season. We are two-thirds of the way through the season. For the Vikings, he has a 29% target share, 42% air yards share, and a 71% catch rate. Jefferson has double-digit fantasy scores in 8 of the last nine games. He plays the game with the highest over/under of the week. To top it all off, the Lions give up the fifth most fantasy points to wide receivers. This is set up for a massive game for Jefferson.

Tight Ends

Greg Dulcich

Courtland Sutton got hurt in Week 13. Dulcich became the target monster in his absence. Dulcich led the Broncos in targets with 8. That was good for a 36% target share. The Broncos are playing the Chiefs, who are good against tight ends but not against wide receivers. OK, Mike, then why are you talking about Dulcich? Because he lines up out wide. He has 22% of the Broncos’ air yards. Only Andrews, Pitts, and Kelce have a higher percentage of their teams’ air yards on the season. In Week 13, he had 42% of those air yards for his team. He will be lined up as a wide receiver against the team that gives up the fourth most points to wide receivers. I like Dulcich a lot in Week 14.

$3,400 on DraftKings
$5,400 on Fanduel

TJ Hockenson

I don’t always fall into revenge game narratives. Hockenson has had a 20% target share on the Vikings since joining the team. He is second on the team behind Jefferson in targets since joining the team. The Lions give the fourth most fantasy points to opposing teams’ tight ends. Tight ends average five receptions for 54 yards against the Lions. Hockenson will exceed that for sure. If you can’t tell, I like the Vikings this week.

💔Heart Breakers

Quarter Backs

Patrick Mahomes

The Broncos give the third-fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. Only one quarterback has scored 20 points against this defense. It’s a combination of the Broncos’ defense being good and the Broncos’ offense being so bad that play-calling leads to more running. You play Mahomes season-long but do not pay up for him in DFS.

Dak Prescott

The Cowboys are playing the Texans in Week 14. The Texans give up the second least amount of points to quarterbacks in fantasy. Only two quarterbacks have scored more than 20 fantasy points against them this season. The Cowboys are not afraid to run the ball a lot. They run the ball the eight most at 49.7% of the time. Prescott has not scored 20 points in either of the past two weeks. The Cowboys need to game-script this to run, run, and run some more.

Danny Jones

The Eagles give the fewest points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. Five of the last eight quarterbacks to play against the Eagles have not even cracked ten fantasy points. The Eagles’ defense is outstanding against the pass. The Giants also run the ball the fifth most in the league. This is yet another game script call. Coaching matters play calling matters. The Giants will not be passing as much in Week 14.

Running Backs

Leonard Fournette

I like the Buccaneers running game, with both Fournette and White healthy and active. He is a great running back by the committee team. But the Niners give up the least fantasy points to opposing teams running backs. Only four running backs have scored double digits against the Niners. That is pretty much enough said. Two guys are splitting touches against a team that doesn’t give up fantasy points to the position. So yeah, I’ll look elsewhere.

Christian McCaffrey

In Week 13, Alvin Kamara managed 37 yards against the Buccaneers’ defense. The Buccaneer’s defense is the third toughest defense against running backs. Of course, we are talking about CMC here. I do think he will see his touches and a large number of targets in this game. However, I don’t want to pay up for him in DFS, knowing it’s an uphill battle.

Dameon Pierce

Pierce squeaked out a double-digit fantasy day in Week 13. Week 14 is a new week with a fresh outlook, which doesn’t look good for Pierce. The Texans are playing against the Cowboys. The Cowboys give up the 5th fewest fantasy points to opposing teams running backs. The Cowboys are a good defense, probably the best this season. I am not touching this one.

Wide Receivers

Juju Smith-Schuster

The Chiefs play the Broncos in Week 14. The Broncos give the fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ wide receivers. I wouldn’t say I like the Chiefs’ passing game much against the Broncos in Week 14. The Broncos offense is terrible, and the defense allows you to run instead of pass. Isaiah Pacheco is an excellent play this week; Juju is not.

CeeDee Lamb

I already know about the Texans being tough against quarterbacks. Well, they also give up the 4th fewest points to wide receivers. The Cowboys can and will run against the Texans. Lamb is someone you are playing in season-long. But do not play for him in DFS. This is a game where he could easily more time blocking and watching running backs do all the heavy lifting.

Stefon Diggs

The Jets give up the third-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers. The Bills played the Jets in Week 9, and Diggs managed five receptions for 93 yards. This is not bad at all. But, again, this is where I want ceiling guys in my DFS lineups, and I don’t want to pay for Diggs’s floor. I think Diggs will score ten fantasy points in Week 14 but is that what you want out of him to win in DFS? I didn’t think so.

Tight Ends

Cade Otton

The Niners’ defense is tough against the run and tight ends. They are the most brutal defense against both positions. Otton may see some volume here, but I wouldn’t count on it. This is a week Brady will look to Chris Godwin and Mike Evans to save the day. So I wouldn’t expect much out of Otton in Week 14. Only two tight ends have even scored double-digit fantasy points against the Niners all season.

Tyler Conklin

In Week 9, the Jets played the Bills. The Jets won that game. Tyler Conklin’s stat line was two targets, one reception, and 7 yards. The Bills give up the 5th fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ tight ends. Only Travis Kelce scored more than eight fantasy points against the Bills. So don’t get cute this week, even with Mike White at quarterback.

Good luck this week!
