Trade Targets (Fantasy Football 2020 – Week 10)

0

Trade deadlines are fast-approaching in our fantasy football leagues. Come late November and early December, only a few waiver adds will have a significant impact on your odds of winning a title. Because of this, trades are a vastly important, especially going into Week 10. Statistically speaking, trades are 33.333% of the types of ways you can build a league-winning roster. That’s not opinion, that’s just math.

Last week, I shared a handful of players that I think could become league winners for your team in the second half of the season. Some of the guys I mentioned in that article could still be on your waiver wire, and some you’ll have to trade for. There are plenty more players out there that should smash down the stretch, so allow me to offer some more trade targets for you look into before your deadline hits.

Allen Robinson

Allen Robinson is the PERFECT trade target, for a number of reasons:

1) He’s got a nails-on-the-chalkboard QB situation. Use this in negotiation to drive Robinson’s perceived value down.

2) He’s got a Week 11 bye. Again, reasons for the current A-Rob manager to trade him away.

3) Despite the above factors, Robinson is a top-tier talent that demands targets.

4) Robinson’s fantasy playoff schedule: Texans, Vikings, Jaguars. These teams are 9th, 4th, and 13th in most fantasy points allowed to wide receivers. I’d say that’s pretty good.

The good (#3 and #4) outweigh the bad (#1 and #2) with Robinson, and you can use the the “bad” to convince managers that need to win right now why it’s time to change it up. If you’re in pole position to make the playoffs, going out and getting Robinson for when he breaks out Weeks 14-16 is an awesome move in my book.

Aaron Jones

Aaron Jones missed two games to injury and came back with a decent 12.9 PPR point performance, but he hasn’t cracked 15 PPR points since Week 4. The Aaron Jones manager in your league might have cooled off on him since his Week 2 40-Burger against the Lions, so now is the time inquire. The schedule isn’t the friendliest, (again, use this point to your advantage) but it’s no secret Jones is another player with the right mix of talent and opportunity that will carry you to some wins throughout the rest of the season. Shout out to @KayneRob for this one.

Myles Gaskin

With Myles Gaskin being sent to IR and the likes of Jordan Howard filling in for now, there’s a buy low opportunity for Gaskin in Week 10. His schedule looks super friendly around when he returns, (Jets, Bengals, Chiefs) and he was seeing a ton of looks before the injury bug bit him. This includes AT LEAST 4 targets in every game he’s played this season. Don’t let the lack of “name value” scare you away from the sunny prospects of Myles Gaskin in late 2020.

Tommy’s Dynasty Spin: You should be able to get Gaskin to help you win now for a 2021 2nd round pick at most!

Note: Other running backs returning from injury also offer buy low opportunities, such as Miles Sanders, Joe Mixon, Raheem Mostert, etc.

Juju Smith-Schuster

Juju Smith-Schuster has 45 catches on the season without a single drop, and he’s playing hard regardless of the ascendant wide receiver talent around him. While I don’t love the schedule, he’s seen 14, 8, and 7 targets in his last three games, showing he’s earning back some of the volume he deserves as the Steelers’ #1 wide receiver. Juju is certainly a better trade target for Dynasty than for the rest of 2020; check out Tommy Mo’s spin below.

Tommy’s Dynasty Spin: Juju is in a contract year and will either get re-signed or traded next offseason. A new team could do wonders for Smith-Schuster. Trade for Juju by offering a player and a high 2020 2nd or a late 2020 1st.

Travis Fulgham

I actually received Fulgham in a trade this week, and despite the now-ridiculous depth I have at wide receiver in that league, I am starting Fulgham in the flex until further notice. Fulgham has seen a minimum of 7 targets in his past four games; before their Week 8 matchup against the Cowboys, he saw three straight weeks with double-digit targets.

For all intents and purposes, Fulgham is in the “Alshon Jeffery role” in Philly. This is a great thing for fantasy, considering Wentz supported Jeffery well beyond the injury-prone receiver’s shelf life. Fulgham also has a friendlier schedule throughout the back half of the season, as the Eagles return to actions against the Giants, Browns, and Seahawks over the next three weeks.

I won’t blame you for not going out of your way to acquire Fulgham, but he’s a great piece to add into a blockbuster deal where you’re getting the marquee player in the deal, PLUS an underappreciated flex option in Fulgham.

Tommy’s Dynasty Spin: Wait for a game when Jalen Reagor takes the lead and Fulgham has a bad game. Trade for Fulgham when his value drops. Reagor and Fulgham are the future of this franchise and both are worth a late, future 1st round pick.

The Stream Option (Fantasy Football 2020 – Week 10)

0

The Stream Option is a weekly article where The Undroppables explore the best options at Quarterback, Defense, and Tight End that should be available in most leagues.
*Note: ESPN rostership rates were gathered on 11/10/2020 and are subject to change.

Quarterbacks

Jared Goff – LAR vs SEA

Jared Goff is currently the QB18 on the season, and, this week, will face the 32nd-ranked pass defense in Seattle. Goff has yet to score less than ten points in a single week this season and should offer a solid floor. Meanwhile, the Seattle Seahawks pass defense is currently allowing 26.73 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season. Goff is only rostered in 40.9% of ESPN leagues.

Drew Lock – DEN @ LV

Drew Lock was the QB4 in Week 9, scoring 29.22 fantasy points against the abysmal Atlanta Falcons pass defense. Luckily, in Week 10, he gets another easy game against a Texans defense that just allowed 21.46 fantasy points to Jaguar’s backup Jake Luton. While Lock has missed 3 games this season and put up a dud against the Pats in Week 6, he has shown that the Bronco’s offense can provide him with fantasy points. While I still have my qualms with Lock as a franchise quarterback, he has been given positive game scripts by the Broncos defense. Lock is only rostered in 18.4% of ESPN leagues.

Other options: Baker Mayfield vs HOU (21.2% rostership)

Tight Ends

Irv Smith, Jr. – MIN @ CHI

Irv Smith has been loved by the fantasy community since he entered the league for the incredible athletic prowess he brings to the TE position. While Irv hasn’t exactly had the breakout some hoped for this season, he has averaged almost ten fantasy points per game over his last four contests. I expect Smith to continue this trend against a Bears defense that is currently allowing the 4th most fantasy points to opposing Tight Ends. Smith is only rostered in 4.4% of ESPN, even after this solid stretch.

Jimmy Graham – CHI vs MIN

Jimmy Graham is currently the TE6 on the season and is coming off a 17.5 fantasy point outing against the Titans. Meanwhile, the Bears will face the Vikings in Week 10. The Vikings are currently allowing the third-most passing yards per game in the NFL, so the opportunity for fantasy points should be there for Graham this week. Graham is only rostered in 66.1% of ESPN leagues.

Defenses

Philadelphia Eagles D/ST – PHI @ NYG

While the Eagles defense has, by no means, been dominant this season, they are currently a top 10 fantasy D/ST after scoring a combined 30 points in their two games prior to last week’s bye. The first of these games was a nine-point outing at home against the same Giants team they will face on Sunday. The combination of Daniel Jones’ fumbling issues and the lackluster play of the Giants offensive line should afford the Eagles pass-rush opportunity to score fantasy points. This Philly pass-rush, led by Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham, is currently second in the NFL in sacks per game and seventh in forced fumbles per game. The Eagles Defense is currently rostered in 43.2% of ESPN leagues.

New Orleans Saints D/ST – NO vs SF

The Saints D/ST currently ranks tenth in fantasy points scored on the season and has put together a few impressive outings, including last Sunday night’s dismantling of Tom Brady and the Bucs on primetime. In Week 10, they face a 49ers offense led by backup QB Nick Mullens which has allowed 6 fantasy points to both the Seahawks’ and Packers’ defenses in their past two outings. The Saints Defense is currently rostered in 38.9% of ESPN leagues.

Other options: Detroit D/ST vs WSH (4.8% rostered), Minnesota D/ST @ CHI (15.7% rostered)

UNtangling the Waiver Wire (Fantasy Football 2020 – Week 10)

“Here comes the brand new flava in ya ear
Time for new flava in ya ear
I’m kicking new flava in ya ear
Mack’s a brand new flava in ya ear”

Did I get that Craig Mack song stuck in your head? No? Okay. Let’s get to to Week 10 waiver wire adds…

If you are reading this, it’s because you need some brand new flavor on your team. I try to be early when I am telling you to add players, that way you could have had Drew Lock for Week 9 instead of fighting for him now in Week 10. I try to beat the rush to the waiver wire by sharing who I am watching for potential breakouts or production prior to the week starting.  Many times, I will add these players on Friday. So, if you are looking for some new flavor for your team, I got you here.

NOTE: If you are new around here, this column refers to players rostered in under 50% of Yahoo, ESPN and Sleeper Leagues.

Quarterbacks

Drew Lock – I had Drew Lock here last week, and then I also had him as a Money Maker. Lock didn’t let me down, as he produced 313 yards and 2 touchdowns passing and added another 47 yards and a touchdown rushing. Is it a victory lap when I am telling you once again to add him? Lock has a solid floor and is capable of getting you these multiple TD weeks. Even though Lock is mediocre as a passer, his receivers are awesome. 20% rostered on Yahoo, 13% rostered on ESPN, 27% rostered on Sleeper. (10% FAAB)

Tua Tagovailoa – Chargers, Broncos, Jets are the next 3 games for the Dolphins. All three are bottom 10 defenses against the quarterback position. Tua had 248 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Cardinals in Week 9.  He looks like he may be able to produce the next 3 weeks at least. 24% rostered on Yahoo, 20% rostered on ESPN, 32% rostered on Sleeper. (10% FAAB)

Alex Smith – Smith threw for 325 yards and a touchdown in relief of Kyle Allen. Allen will miss the rest of the season, and Smith will start for the Washington Football Team in his absence. The Lions are up next; if you need a bye week fill-in, Smith could easily be your guy.  This is a tremendous story that Smith is playing again let alone throwing for over 300 yards. Kudos to you Alex Smith! 1% rostered on Yahoo, 0% rostered on ESPN and 0% rostered on Sleeper. (5% FAAB)

Other Quarterbacks to consider: Kirk Cousins and Nick Foles.

Running Backs

Duke Johnson – David Johnson went into concussion protocol after taking a big hit in Week 9. Duke Johnson then piled up 20 touches for a combined 73 yards and a touchdown rushing and receiving. Not efficient at all with his touches, but if David Johnson misses time, Duke will get all the volume you could want for a running back. 16% rostered on Yahoo, 16% on ESPN, 4% on Sleeper. (8% FAAB)

Kalen Ballage – Justin Jackson went down on the very first series of the Chargers game Sunday with a knee injury. Ballage stepped in and led the Chargers backfield in touches with 17. He ended up with 69 yards and a touchdown rushing and 2 receptions for 15 yards. 1% rostered on Yahoo, 0% on ESPN, 0% on Sleeper.   (5% FAAB)

J.D. McKissic – In Week 9 McKissic was targeted 14 times and had 9 receptions for 65 yards. He pretty much dominated the targets out of the backfield for the Washington Football Team. With the change at quarterback and the Lions up next, McKissic could be a valuable add in PPR formats. 24% rostered on Yahoo, 34% rostered on ESPN, and 41% rostered on Sleeper. (2% FAAB)

Other running backs to consider: Ryan Nall, Wayne Gallman, Travis Homer, and Jordan Wilkins.

Wide Receivers

Curtis Samuel – I have tweeted about watching Samuel. I have written about him as an add last week here. For three weeks now, Samuel has been getting more involved, both as a wide receiver and as a running back. Samuel has scored in each of the last three games and had 9 targets for 9 receptions, 105 yards, and a touchdown in Week 9. With Christian McCaffrey likely now out again in Week 10, Samuel looks like a must add. 30% rostered on Yahoo, 42% rostered on ESPN, 30% on Sleeper.  (10% of FAAB)

Darnell Mooney – In the last three weeks, Mooney has seen 24 targets for 13 receptions, 152 total yards, and 1 touchdown. The Vikings are up next with their extremely pass friendly defense. Mooney’s looking like a wonderful PPR fill-in for Week 10. 14% rostered on Yahoo, 14% on ESPN, 24% on Sleeper. (5% FAAB)

Jakobi Meyers – Meyers had a combined 16 targets for 10 receptions and 118 yards combined in Week 7 and 8. Someone has to catch the ball in New England, and Meyers is the last man standing at wide receiver. Myers also finished Week 9 with 12 receptions for 169 yards, so there’s all the proof you need that he’s a solid option. 12% rostered on Yahoo, 5% on ESPN, 14% on Sleeper. (5% FAAB)

Other wide receivers to consider: Jakeem Grant, Allen Lazard, and Nelson Agholor.

Tight Ends

Austin Hooper -Before his appendectomy, Hooper had started to become more relevant in the Browns passing game. Hooper average roughly 7 targets, 5 receptions, and 46 yards per game in the three games prior to his operation. Houston is up in Week 10 and is a bottom 10 defense against tight ends. 41% rostered on Yahoo, 40% on ESPN, and 48% rostered on Sleeper. (8% FAAB)

Ross Dwelley – Dwelley saw 3 targets for 3 receptions and 52 yards in Week 9. The Saints and their tight end friendly defense are up next. If you are desperate, (and you must be if you made it past Hooper,) Dwelley might be an attractive option. 8% rostered on Yahoo, 3% on ESPN, and 17% on Sleeper. (3% FAAB)

Other tight ends to consider: Gerald Everett and Dalton Schultz.

Unsung Heroes | Offensive & Defensive Line Matchups Week 9

0

An unsung hero is someone who does great deeds, but gets little to no recognition for them. In football, the linemen who battle in the trenches are the unsung heroes that make the biggest impact on the game. In this weekly column, we shine a light on those unsung heroes and to help you make your lineup decisions. The offensive line advantage will be provided by Brad, with the defensive line advantage provided by Tommy Mo. Both also give their favorite matchups to look forward to for the week ahead.

Week 8 Recap

Offensive Side

It looks like the Packers and Vikings matchup should have been in the Battles of the Week column. Either way, the Packers didn’t give up a sack until the final play on an attempted Hail Mary. In the world of an offensive lineman you can play a perfect game up until the last play, give up a sack, and your day is ruined. I’m sure that is exactly how Rick Wagner feels right now.

It seems that it is getting to the point where we can’t trust starting Jonathan Taylor anymore. Jordan (freaking) Wilkins got 20 carries in Week 8. I think Dan put it perfectly in the tweet below from a fantasy perspective. From an Offensive Line perspective they played better than they have been, but it was also the Lions. For me it might be time to stop being stubborn and move them down a little bit until they can show they are as good as last year.

The Rams game was not what I expected either. It seemed to all fall apart for the Rams for a while after Jared Goff’s first interception of the day. They did have a pretty good ground game as expected. Overall they had 27 carries for 122 yards, not including Robert Woods obligatory carries. The problem is that no running back had more than 10 carries. It was nice to see Cam Akers get some usage, but this is frustrating for fantasy purposes.

Defensive Side

The Eagles defense racked up 4 sacks with 3 coming from their defensive line as we saw Ben DiNucci run for his life on many other plays. This was to be expected knowing how beat up the Cowboys are along the offensive line. Ezekiel Elliott was held to 63 yards on 19 carries and did not look like himself during the game. It did come out earlier this week that he is dealing with a hamstring issue.

The first half for the Buccaneers was not pretty overall, but their defense turned up the heat in the second half. Ndamukong Suh and Jason Pierre-Paul combined for 2 sacks and 3 tackles for loss, with Devin White adding another sack from the linebacker spot. They held the Giants running backs to 72 yards on 20 carries and kept Daniel Jones in check for the most part. Not the best game overall, but they got the job done. They will need to put the full game together if they want to have a chance against the Saints this week.

This Ravens group was impressive overall holding the Steelers to 221 total yards on the day. They shut the Steelers down in the first half also as the only points scored were on a pick 6 by Robert Spillane. The second half was a bit of a different story. We saw Ben get the ball out on time and the Ravens not getting the pressure needed. It is tough to defend all of the Steelers weapons, but the way to do it is to get in Ben’s face and not allow him to make plays.

Offensive Line Advantage

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Dallas Cowboys

The Steelers offensive line has been consistently improving to me over the season. David DeCastro missed the first couple games of the season and suffered an abdominal injury in Week 5 against the Eagles. In the games that he has played, DeCastri has played at an elite level. He has not allowed a sack in the 3.5 games played and is helping Chukwuma Okorafor who has played almost every snap since they lost Zach Banner in Week 1. We all know how bad Dallas has been, they just dealt Everson Griffen to the Lions and cut Dontari Poe. This is going to be a SMASH game for all Steelers players involved.

Las Vegas Raiders @ Las Angeles Chargers

It is still yet to be determined if Trent Brown will play this week after receiving an IV during pregame in Week 8. Apparently, air went into his bloodstream and he was sent to a hospital in Cleveland. Sam Young also suffered a minor knee injury in their previous game and was forced to leave, but was able to get some practice in this week. The good news for the Raiders is that newly transitioned left guard Denzelle Good might be more than just a stop-gap for Richie Incognito. He has shown promise after having a pretty average first couple weeks after the switch. I always hate hearing about concussions, but if Joey Bosa were to miss this game it would give the Raiders an even bigger advantage. I’m sure you’ve seen Tommy’s threads about Josh Jacobs, he should have another monster game on the ground this week.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs Houston Texans

Lets give this team another chance here. The Jaguars have been a bit of a rollercoaster along the offensive line. Some weeks are better than others, but hopefully they put it together this week after getting to rest up in Week 8. Speaking of rest they should get A.J. Cann back this week after suffering a shoulder injury in Week 6 against Detroit. Houston is giving up 5.06 Adj. Line Yards per carry which is strange for a defense led by a healthy J.J. Watt. The loss of D.J. Reader is certainly showing for them. This should be yet another strong game for James Robinson.

Honorable Mentions: Both the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions offensive lines.

Defensive Line Advantage

Buffalo Bills vs Seattle Seahawks

I’ve written about the Bills defensive line in past weeks, and while they are uber talented up front with Hughes, Oliver, and Addison. They are playing better as a group than individually as no one has more than 3 sacks, but as a unit, are 10th in sacks with 19, and 10th in adj. sack rating. The Seahawks offensive line is ok, ranked 24th overall by Brad Wire, and are rated 21st in adj. sack rate by Football Outsiders. The Seahawks have been much better at run blocking than pass blocking, so it’s a good thing they have Mr. Unlimited at QB. The Bills are going to get after Russell Wilson on Sunday, but the difference may be in the run game the Seahawks are top 10 in run blocking and the Bills are in the 20’s in run stopping. Start Wilson and whoever is running the ball, but don’t expect a huge day from Russ.

Washington Football Team vs New York Giants

The premier matchup for this week is the Washington Football Team’s great defensive unit vs the Giants not great offensive line. Washington is rated 2nd in adj. sack rate with 10.6% thanks to the entire defense teeing off on QBs. Montez Sweat (5 sacks), Ryan Kerrigan (4), Chase Young (2.5), John Bostic (2), and Landon Collins (2) all chipping in to put serious pressure on opposing QBs. The Giants offensive line is ranked 27th overall by Brad Wire and are 16th overall in adj. sack rate. The Giants are getting better each week, but there are too many rushers on Washington’s team to stop and it’s looking like another bad day for Daniel Jones and company. I would not start any RB for the Giants, nor Jones, and only Darius Slayton if you reallllly have to.

Battles of the Week

Baltimore Ravens @ Indianapolis Colts

The loss of Ronnie Stanley is another giant heart breaker for the Ravens who lost Matt Skura late last season. Skura may be fully recovered from ACL surgery but it can take an additional year to actually trust that it is healed. I expect him to be better next year as he has put up some rough performances. The main battles to watch in this game will be Calais Campbell vs. Quenton Nelson, Yannick Ngakoue vs. Anthony Castonzo, and Deforest Bucker vs. the Ravens interior offensive line. We saw J.K. Dobbins carve up a tough Steelers defense last week and it will be interesting to see if he can do it again in another touch matchup.

New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Division Game. Rematch from Week 1. Tom Brady and Drew Brees battling it out for most touchdowns all time. That is all fun and games, but it all starts, and ends, upfront. Tom Brady was sacked 3 times to Drew Brees’ 1. Brady threw 2 interceptions to Brees’ 0. Brees’ offensive line held up better than Brady’s did, period. Tampa Bay has had quite an up and down season as far as offensive line goes, 4 games giving up no sacks and 4 games giving up at least 2 sacks. There have been some coverage sacks given up, but that is to be expected when the receiving core is a patchwork quilt every game.
We know what the Saints are working with upfront. They have been one of the best offensive lines the last two years. Michael Thomas looks like he is finally going to return this week also which means Drew Brees should be able to get the ball out on quick and on rhythm. This helps upfront and has been one of the keys to their success. Check out Brad’s individual matchup for more on this game.

Favorite Individual Matchups

Brad Wire – Cesar Ruiz (G – NO) vs. Ndamukong Suh (IDL – TB)
Ruiz has been featured here before in Week 6 going against Derrick Brown and the Panthers. This week is a different and much more refined pair of defensive tackles. He has shown some flashes this year, but overall has underperformed. Understandably so, he was injured early on in the season with no training camp. He will get better as the season progresses. The entire defensive line of the Bucs, especially Ndamukong Suh, he’s going against this week are not young however. They are very seasoned vets that have dominated in Todd Bowles system. If Ruiz can hold his own like he has shown he can at times then the Saints can likely deal Brady his 3rd loss of the season.

Tommy Mo – Cameron Jordan (DE – NO) vs Tristan Wirfs (OT – TB)

I have enjoyed seeing rookie offensive lineman get tested against exceptional veteran defensive lineman this season. The offensive line rookie class has been better than people may have realized in terms of starting right away. This week’s test is the rookie Wirfs against one of the coolest cats in the game, Cam Jordan. Jordan has 2.5 sacks on the year and 4 QB hits. Not necessarily amazing stats, but Jordan’s game is about disrupting the line of scrimmage and stopping the run. Wirfs is big and strong, and has played well against guys like Joey Bosa, and is a very solid run blocker. This will be a battle in the trenches and I’m curious to see who will come out on top.
