Accountability Check – Week 9
Sam Darnold – 48.5% Completion, QB27
Laviska Shenault Jr. – 79% Snaps, WR52
Gerald Everett – Bye Week
Kenneth Gainwell – 19% Snaps, RB40
Sam Darnold returning to his old form after his hot start to ruin everyone’s D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson shares. The usage for Laviska has been alarming but to lose out to Dan Arnold and Jamal Agnew has got to be concerning, especially for Dynasty managers. Looking like Kenneth Gainwell not being the feature back after Miles Sanders injury will be a 2021 mystery no one will know the answer until Nick Sirianni’s 30 for 30 comes out. I don’t think season can get any more unpredictable.
Now the chaos has been in full swing, let’s see if we can help mitigate some of it by looking at the players I am recommending that you send back to the waiver wire.
Mike Davis (RB – Atlanta Falcons)
Yahoo Rostership: 75%
Full PPR Rankings: RB36
Last 5 Snap Trend: 67% → 64% → 60% → 64% → 56%
Last 5 Positional Weekly Finishes (PPR): 32 → 27 → 65 → 26 → 60
Signed in the offseason to be the lead back, Arthur Smith quickly realized what Mike Davis was actually and decided to lean on his offensive weapon in Cordarrelle Patterson. Prior to the bye week, Mike at least was getting you 10+ PPR points each week, making him a decent flex start. After the bye, he has one finish above 10 points in the 3 games. He is starting to trend down and could be considered be released for someone in Michael Reedy’s Untangling the Waiver Wire article.
Bryan Edwards (WR – Las Vegas Raiders)
Yahoo Rostership: 29%
Full PPR Rankings: WR66
Last 5 Snap Trend: 89% → 76% → 77% → 89% → 93%
Last 5 Target Trend: 12% → 17% → 15% → 12% → 9%
Last 5 Positional Weekly Finishes (PPR): 112 → 86 → 52 → 24 → 120
The next Davante Adams, as Derek Carr was alluding to. He would know, he played college with him and got everyone hyped in the offseason. Well, halfway through the season Edwards has 18 receptions on the season and 1 touchdown. He has yet to get higher then 17% target share and regardless of game script, has played behind Darren Waller, Hunter Renfrow and Zay Jones. The team just signed Desean Jackson as well, I don’t see him becoming fantasy relevant unless a major injury happens to Las Vegas.
San Francisco 49ers D/ST
Yahoo Rostership: 57%
Full PPR Rankings: DST27
Last 5 Points Allowed: 28 → 17 → 30 → 22 → 31
Last 5 Sacks per Game Totals: 3 → 2 → 1 → 4 →
Last 5 Positional Weekly Finishes (PPR): 20 → 15 → 19 → 16 → 24
Changing it up this week and looking at the Defenses in fantasy. I was shocked to see that the 49ers D/ST was being rostered above 50%! A defense that has a total of 5 total turnovers (tied last in NFL) and has a handful of powerhouse offenses left on the schedule, including the LA Rams twice, Minnesota, Seattle, Cincinnati, and Tennessee. Follow me for my Streaming Options articles to help fill in your D/ST roster spot weekly instead of holding onto these guys.
Slow Drainers
Listing another player here that I personally really like but am starting to hate the coaching staff more and more. Remember, this is advising to drop the player but to monitor their next week’s usage.
Kadarius Toney (WR – New York Giants)
Yahoo Rostership: 65%
Full PPR Rankings: WR61
Last 6 Snap Trend: 78% → 54% → 8% → 0% → 57% → 55%
Last 6 Target Trend: 23% → 34% → 6% → 0% → 16% → 5%
Last 6 Positional Weekly Finishes (PPR): 29 → 5 → 62 → NR → 58 → 88
With his early struggles in the offseason and beginning of the season, there was very little going for Kadarius to start the season. In Week 4, he showed what he was capable with a nice finish. He followed that up with an explosion against Dallas with 10 receptions and 189 receiving yards. He aggravated his injury and just hasn’t been the same since. With a Week 10 bye week, I think he is still worth stashing and hoping he can stay healthy. No one seems to stay healthy there for the Giants and hoping he can take back his Alpha role in this offense. Week 11 they play against the Buccaneers who have allowed wide receivers to feast.
