Now that Week 4 is in the books, let’s look at your roster. There is a chance you are the bottom half of the standings. You are looking to get the best player available on the waiver wire. Unfortunately, there is no insight on who to drop in order to pick players up. I am here to help and clear out the roster clogs you may have on your team.
This article will discuss players (ignoring injuries) that can be dropped because they just haven’t been good enough to start for you but you are holding onto their name/draft capital.
Ronald Jones
RB – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Yahoo Rostership: 70%
Full PPR Rankings: RB75
Snap Trend: 9% → 41% → 16%
Drafted around the RB32 in the 2021 Off-season, Ronald Jones has quickly found the doghouse once again under Bruce Arians. Early Week 1 fumble and it’s been all Leonard Fournette or Giovanni Bernard for the RB work. Injuries may get him back into the starting role but that’s not something we can wait for. You are never going to start him, even with bye weeks coming up and you are better off finding other replacements on the waiver wire.
Robby Anderson
WR – Carolina Panthers
Yahoo Rostership: 85%
Full PPR Rankings: WR73
Snap Trend: 81% → 74% → 64%
Target Trend: 9% → 16% → 6%
I think this one will hurt most for me this offseason since I was so high on Robby. After his extension, he has been a non-factor in the passing game and it’s been a major surprise. Besides the contract, he has a previous rapport with Sam Darnold and the changing of the roles where he would be featured as a deep threat again made him appealing at his draft capital. This one may not be an immediate drop however, with Christian McCaffrey’s injury, we could potentially see his target share go up. Along with Dan Arnold’s trade to Jacksonville, there is potential Robby can live back up to where you drafted him. After this week and the trends stay the same, go ahead and let him be someone else’s headache on if you are starting or not.
Jonnu Smith
TE – New England Patriots
Yahoo Rostership: 61%
Full PPR Rankings: TE26
Snap Trend: 73% → 49% → 42%
Target Trend: 13% → 18% → 12%
This one might be premature, but I can live with being wrong on this one. His snap counts have drastically gone down as Hunter Henry has come back into the lineup. He looked awful against the New Orleans Saints and contributed to an interception. He has consistently been targeted, with 5+ each game, but hasn’t done exactly what we were hoping for. New England did give him a big contract, but that has never been a driver for player’s involvement for New England in the past. You can certainly do worse at a thin position in Fantasy Football, but I’d rather take someone that is trending in the right direction like Tyler Conklin or Dawson Knox.
