Unclogging Your Roster (Fantasy Football 2021 – Week 8)

Accountability Check – Week 7

Nelson Agholor – 57% Snaps, WR26
Austin Hooper – 65% Snaps, TE23
Tyler Boyd – 71% Snaps, WR43

Even with the long touchdown, Nelson Agholor’s week still finished him as a high-end WR3 on the week. Austin Hooper had his highest yardage finish on the season and barely qualified as a TE2. The biggest mystery of them all, Tyler Boyd just disappearing as Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and C.J. Uzomah has taken over the passing attack for the Cincinnati Bengals. I excluded Devin Singletary from my accountability, since he was on bye but still vote that he was definitely expendable if you needed a bye week filler.

Some big names this week in my article, let’s dive right into why these names should be off your rosters.

Trey Sermon (RB – San Francisco 49ers)

Yahoo Rostership: 37%
Full PPR Rankings: RB73
Last 5 Weeks Snap Trend: 1% → 59% → 51% → 3% → 0%
Last 5 Positional Weekly Finishes(PPR): 75 → 26 → 38 → 77 → Unranked

If you missed out on Elijah Mitchell and bought into the hype for Trey Sermon, it’s ok. I remember one of my first drafts being so excited to get Bishop Sankey in the second round of a draft and let me tell you what, he did not pay off. It’s looking like Sermon needs more than a prayer to see the field again, especially with JaMycal Hasty back and Jeff Wilson soon to return off PUP.

Allen Robinson (WR – Chicago Bears)

Yahoo Rostership: 91%
Full PPR Rankings: WR59
Last 5 Snap Trend: 89% → 69% → 83% → 92% → 94%
Last 5 Target Trend: 30% → 18% → 25% → 26% → 13%
Last 5 Positional Weekly Finishes(PPR): 81 → 54 → 60 → 48 → 72

No one is going to fault you for hanging onto ARob. The invested draft capital, his name recognition, and the pure talent he displays will warrant him a roster spot. If you are in need of someone to drop, look past his name and look at the production. Owners that have started him every week have most likely been losing or barely winning with him being a black void on your starting lineup.

Odell Beckham Jr. (WR – Cleveland Browns)

Yahoo Rostership: 79%
Full PPR Rankings: WR75
Last 5 Snap Trend: 64% → 79% → 81% → 54% → 61%
Last 5 Target Trend: 29% → 21% → 9% → 29% → 18%
Last 5 Positional Weekly Finishes(PPR): 29 → 79 → 87 → 28 → 62

One more big name was added to the article. Odell just hasn’t been the same since getting traded to Cleveland. A run-first offense, Baker is banged up and Odell himself isn’t healthy either. When Baker is on the field and healthy with Odell, the connection just hasn’t been there and the sample size is getting larger. You can safely drop him and let someone live off his big-name on their bench.

Slow Drainers

Added this last week and highlighted Tyler Boyd. Proved to be a good call so I will add someone that is on our watch list. The usage and opportunities may be correct for this running back, but the finishes just haven’t been there just yet.

Sony Michel (RB – Los Angelas Rams)

Yahoo Rostership: 42%
Full PPR Rankings: RB62
Last 5 Snap Trend: 74% → 10% → 34% → 18% → 12%
Last 5 Positional Weekly Finishes(PPR): 28 → 99 → 29 → 44 → 72

Big-time trade from the Rams, acquiring Sony Michel from the New England Patriots for 2022 5th and 6th round picks. With Cam Akers down for the season, the Rams needed to add depth. There was hope with the usage of the running backs in 2020 that Sony would see the field more. As the season has gone on, Darrell Henderson has proven to be the workhorse and Sony has been nothing more than a backup that can see value to an injury. Roster him if you have Darrell on your team so you don’t lose out of value, but if you are holding onto him and hoping there becomes a split, time to cut bait.

I was asked to join a fantasy football league in High School and I haven't been the same since. I love the competitive nature, the communities it builds, and the thinking and content that can be created. I am hoping to connect to larger audiences in helping them grow into becoming knowledgable managers and I am open to discussions.
