UNtangling the Waiver Wire (Fantasy Football 2021 – Week 3)

I thought that the Niners running back situation was a disaster after Week 1. Well, Week 2 taught me that Jon Snow and I know nothing. If injuries or a poor draft have you down, never fear because Untangling the Wire is here to help you sort through this week’s fantasy football waiver wire.

The fantasy football waiver wire is the place to find a lot of goodies that other people don’t want. I will stress that you may also want to watch who people are dropping sometimes when they make an add as well. I find lots of valuable players this way.

NOTE: If you are new around here this column refers to players rostered in under 50% of Yahoo, ESPN, and Sleeper leagues.

Quarterbacks

Daniel Jones

I know even I can’t believe I am saying this. At the time of writing this article Danny Dimes is the number 5 scorer at the quarterback position in fantasy football. The Monday night game still needs to be played. Danny scored 21.38 points in Week 1 and 29.46 points in week 2. He trails Tom Brady in scoring by less than 8 points. Danny has rushed for a touchdown in each of the first two games and ran for 95 yards in Week 2. Atlanta is up in week 3, need I say more about his streaming potential?

NOTE: Konami code is in full effect for Jones the first two weeks of the season.

Derek Carr

I spell his first name incorrectly all the time, which is inexcusable. I have stated on podcasts that I like him more than most people, and I do. Carr has passed for 435 yards and 2 TDs in Week 1 and followed that up with 382 yards and 2 TDs and Week 2. I will be adding him. (P.S. – Go look at his fantasy playoff schedule, but don’t tell anyone yet)

Teddy Bridgewater

Steady Teddy is the epitome of efficiency and accuracy.  Seriously, this guy has helped the Broncos passing game in both real football and in fantasy. Multiple touchdowns in each of the first two games and weapons galore. I like Teddy as an add this week with the Jets up next.

Other quarterbacks to consider: Sam Darnold, Taylor Heinicke

Running Backs

Tony Pollard

Tony Pollard is just eating into Zeke Elliot’s production, and he looks SO good doing it. 109 yards in Week 2 and a TD rushing and 31 yards receiving. Pollard isn’t going away. A good addition to your team.

James White

White was written up here last week, yet is still out there in the majority of leagues. If you are playing in a PPR league you need to add White, if you are playing standard you really should add him. White has 6 receptions in each of the first two games. He rushed for a touchdown this past Sunday. The Patriots stalwart will easily surpass 80 receptions this season.

Cordarrelle Patterson

Patterson ranked as a top 4 scorer at running back and top 5 scorer at wide receiver in Week 2. In both Sleeper and Yahoo, he is WR only on CBS, and RB only on ESPN. So it appears no one really knows what position he plays. What we do know is that in Week 2 he both caught and ran for touchdowns. He is receiving touches and making the most out of them and that means we need to pay attention and add him where you can.

Other running backs to consider: JaMycal Hasty, Darrel Williams, J.D. McKissic

Wide Receivers

Rondale Moore

5 targets for 4 receptions yielding 68 yards last week. He followed this up with 8 targets for 7 receptions, 114 yards, and a TD in Week 2. He led the Cardinals in targets this week with 8 and that was a 22% target share. If you didn’t get him last week go get him off the wire.

K.J. Osborn

Tweeted about him as an add last week after my buddy @MasterJune70 pointed out that he is heavily included in the Vikings passing attack. Osborn is what people hoped Irv Smith would be. He had a 19% target share in Week 2 which netted him 6 targets for 5 receptions, 91 yards, and a TD. After having 7 receptions for 76 yards in Week 1.  Looks like add him and play him with Seattle up next.

Zach Pascal

Pascal was in the article last week as other receivers to consider. Seriously, consider him now. On the season, he has 3 touchdowns, he is the WR number 15 in scoring after 2 weeks.

NOTE: Sterling Shepard is still only rostered in 57% of Yahoo leagues. If he is out there, he should be added ahead of these guys.

Other wide receivers to consider: Quez Watkins, Tim Patrick, Darnell Mooney

Tight Ends

Austin Hooper

Almost all the wide receivers for the Browns are injured. Baker Mayfield seems to like to throw to his tight ends. Hooper saw 5 targets for 5 receptions and 40 yards in Week 2.

Dawson Knox

He had 41 yards in week 1 and followed that up with 2 receptions for 17 yards and a touchdown in Week 2. I certainly don’t love him at all but right now he trails Kyle Pitts by 0.1 points in total scoring on the season. This is like the desperate person looking hard to hook up at the end of the night at a bar. If you just want someone, Knox is someone.
